Recently at the MOCA in Los Angeles, a large-scale vinyl reproduction of Jonas Wood’s imagery was put up on the museum’s 5,400 square-foot facade. Rearranging segments of his watercolor painting Still Life With Two Owls from 2014, the mural introduces passerby’s to common elements of the locally-based artist’s modern takes on still lifes – plants, ceramics, collage-like compositions. With his major retrospective still showing in Spain (covered), Mark Ryden (interviewed) has unveiled a side project he has been working on for quite some time. A couple days ago, Shepard Fairey (featured) wrapped up his latest large scale mural in Las Vegas, created for the Life is Beautiful festival and curated by Justkids. Entitled Cultivate Harmony, the 21 story high piece now graces the facade of the Plaza Hotel in downtown. For those that missed the unveiling of KAWS’ new virtual reality experience created with the help Visionaire, Artnet has nice recap of the event here. Visitors at the New York Public Library were taken on a studio visit with the Brooklyn-based artist, which quickly turns into a kaleidoscope of colors, misbehaving characters, and surreal imagery when he leaves the room. Tonight (February 2nd) in London, StolenSpace will be holding the opening reception for Okuda’s new show entitled Lost Olympus. The new body of work from the Spanish artist features his representations of the mythological gods and characters from ancient Greece, painted in his signature multicolored geometric patterns. His vibrant imagery are sort of deconstructions as he mixes this many-hued approach with the other textures and patterns, a technique he also uses on the streets where he made his name. Earlier today, FriendsWithYou release a new sculpture edition – the Little Cloud Pocket Amulet. Limited to a run of 1000, the collectible meant to be an “enduring symbol of love and light as well as the idea that everything has a soul” is made from brass plated lead-free pewter and will cost $60.
