Earlier this week, South African artist Faith47 made an appearance in Los Angeles where she painted a large-scale mural entitled The Preciousness of the Hunt. Last week, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Souther Salazar were able to complete their joint mural in Portland for Forest For The Trees (FFTT). The artists were invited to join the not-for-profit the public mural project, which also featured eighteen other local and international artists. Over the course of several days, Salazar painted clusters of his whimsical imagery against Monroe’s Tron-like structured background that hints at trees. An intriguing show that recently ended in Detroit at the Library Street Collective featured new works from Kelsey Brookes. Collectively entitled Sleep: The Science and the Mystery, the new paintings from the former biochemist are constructed painstakingly with colorful patterns that in an abstract way define chemical and molecular structures. This particular set of mesmerizing works from the San Diego area based artist focused on Acetylcholine, Histamine, Norepinephrine and GABA, four neurotransmitters which help regulate sleep. Earlier today, Josh Keyes (interviewed) released a new print through Tiny Showcase continuing their long collaborative history together (2014, 2013, 2012, 2010). Entitled Sleeping Woods, the new edition has an image area of 14″ x 8.4″ and total size of 15″ x 9.5″ including the border.
