On April 16th, the ICA in London will be presenting the first solo exhibition in the UK from the transcendent Tauba Auerbach. Entitled The New Ambidextrous Universe, the show will feature a diverse selection of works from the versatile artist including sculpture, photography, painting, weaving and book design. In particular, we are interested in her newly created works that “take as their starting point the scientific principles of symmetry and reflection as a means to hint at an alternate, mirror universe.” Discuss Tauba Auerbach here.

Oakland based artist Max Kauffman made the trek back to his former home town of Denver, Colorado for his solo show Aether Ceremony at Black Book Gallery. True to the fictional element for which the show is named, the flowing lines and semi-abstracted imagery make the show feel light, elusive and Aether like. It looks like Shepard Fairey (featured) has created a new print as a tribute to Ai Weiwei ahead of the Chinese artist’s show opening soon at the Brooklyn Museum. The portrait is created with Shep’s signature style and features a gash on the activist-artist’s scalp alluding to his time in the Chinese police’s hands back in 2010. This Friday, March 21st, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery in Ontario, Canada will be opening a new show from Tristram Lansdowne (interviewed). Entitled Provisional Futures, the exhibition will include a series of fresh works from the Toronto-based painter that further explores his practice of melding architectural forms with botanical & geological structures, perhaps pointing to the future. Earlier this month, we shared some shots of work from artist JR (interviewed) from his solo at Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden, Germany. Not surprisingly, while there, the French “photograffeur” spent time on the streets working on new pieces to share with the public. Continuing the concepts of his UNFRAMED project, he visited residents in the area and chose some of their photos to paste up, exploring the city’s history as the link between Germany and France. On May 17th, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angelels will be presenting a new body of work from Greg Simkins (featured). Also known as Craola to his fans, the locally-based artist will be returning to the showspace (see 2012 & 2013) with a fresh batch of paintings featuring his surreal cast of animal characters.
