French graffiti artist Bom.K will be having his first solo show stateside called Confusions at Known Gallery in Los Angeles. Having exhibited with the DMV crew in Spain, Denmark, Australia, UK and following the success of his last solo show in France (covered here), Bom.k is taking the US by storm. Mastering the spray can with an incredible dexterity and intricate details, he depicts a gritty universe with his monstrous yet captivating creatures. Confusions opens on the 11th of January.
Just like earlier last year for SCOPE during Basel Week Switzerland (covered), the Thinkspace Gallery booth in Miami was also featured a mini-solo show from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). Included in the new body of work were her familiar exquisite portraiture of seductively innocent girls, with her technique taking advantage of the wood grain in each piece. We stopped by Kelsey Brookes‘ first solo exhibition recently in New York at Judith Charles Gallery. Entitled Better Living Through Chemistry, this show features a large body of work focusing in on his abstract paintings and musings via eye catching molecular structures. One of the launch events during Art Basel Week was Future Relic by Daniel Arsham (seen above with artist DRx Romanelli). Presented by OHWOW Gallery, this event served to debut a collaborative film starring Daniel with fashion designer Richard Chai and features Ben Louis Nicholas as the director of photography and music created by Swiss Beats. Next week in Portland (January 9th), the Breeze Block Gallery will be welcoming in Alex Lukas for a solo show entitled Prints & Photographs; Copies & Concrete. The recently relocated artist will be presenting new works in a wide range of mediums all centered on the tradition of printmaking as a tool for multiples. Showing through this Saturday (January 4th) at the White Walls project space in San Francisco is a solo from ROA. Presented in a format seen previously from the Belgium-based street artist, the work was interposed throughout the gallery set up like the workspace of a field biologist full of drawings, tools, and evidence of field research. Of course, the imagery presented featured his signature dissections, anatomical details, and interactive qualities. Discuss ROA here.
Showing through this Saturday is the joint exhibition from Bian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana at Copro Gallery entitled Desensitized 13. This Saturday (Jan 4th, 7-10pm) in Chicago, Andrew Schoultz will be opening a special show featuring hand-painted skateboards. Held at Uprise Skateboard Shop, the 10 custom decks sound like they will be priced very reasonably at $300-$500 with the proceeds going to benefit After School Matters, a non-profit organization that offers local high school teens innovative out-of-school activities.
