AM recently had the pleasure to visit the studio of multi-disciplinary artist Jen Stark as she prepares for her debut solo show in Canada tonight (6-10 pm) with Cooper Cole in Toronto. The LA-based artist’s process is meticulous and her studio is very well organized with numerous projects coming to life simultaneously. Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) was recently asked by the good people of Magento to paint a mural in their Los Angeles offices. Combining the imagery seen in previous walls he got up on (Hawaii & Los Angeles), the LA-based artist worked his magic on the two-sided space he was given with a series of stencil-based and painterly techniques. Rostarr (featured) was recently invited to participate in the Open Canvas intiative put on by Absolut in Brooklyn. The New York-based artist, who only recently exhibited at the local branch of the Opera Gallery (covered), joined twenty other participants as they transformed North 6th street in Williamsburg through the project. Continuing their long history of artists collaborations, Louis Vuitton’s latest project features the letters of Ben Eine. In particular, the Frence fashion house has been working on a series of scarves with street and graffiti artists (also see RETNA, Aiko, Os Gemeos) so the UK-based artist’s alphabet musings are just the latest iteration. On July 13th, the Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting the opening for a three-person show from Ekundayo (interviewed), Adam Caldwell, and Joram Roukes entitled Reflections of a New Generation. For his part, the LA-based Ekundayo has been hard at work in the studio creating new paintings for the show featuring his grotesque and surreal characters. Today in South Korea, Takashi Murakami opened a new exhibition at Plateau, Samsung Museum of Art featuring over 40 of his artworks. Takashi in Superflat Wonderland will include recent works, but is also a retrospective, and puts the core “Superflat” philosophy behind his art on display.
