Another highlight of AM’s Portland trip for the Space//Form exhibition at Breeze Block Gallery was a chance to meet up with long time online friend Blaine Fontana and take a look around his studio. Blaine’s studio is located in a wonderful 1911 brick built 4 storey former seed warehouse in Portland. The building is now occupied solely as artist studios and retains a plenitude of its original features in addition to its high ceilings. The interior of Blaine’s headquarters has been meticulously crafted in his own style, employing an […]

Last week, Kris Lewis (interviewed) returned (see 2011 & 2009) for a new showing at the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. The exhibition included a series of paintings featuring his exquisite portraiture which shows the California-based artist’s reverence for the old masters as well as his technical prowess. Add to that a gift for the emotive touch as well as creating works that really connect with the viewer and you have something special. The show runs through the end of the month, so definitely stop by if you are in the area. Photo […]

Astute fans may have noticed that Todd James’ new exhibition opening this week in New York is being sponsored in part by VistaJet & Bombardier Aerospace, the same people behind a series of shows by RETNA in the past (covered here & here). At that time, you may also recall that RETNA painted the tail of one of Vistajet’s private charter planes (video here). Well, it looks like James may be creating his own sweet rendition of the project if these mock-up photos are evidence enough. Via Andy […]

Last Friday, AM traveled to Seattle to attend a couple shows at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Not only did we have the privilege to enjoy Josh Keyes’ fantastic new paintings, but we also took time to take in John Brophy’s new body of work entitled New Songs for the Standard Model. Brophy’s intense imagery often features scientific formulas, symbology, Asian-influenced references and artifacts of the modern world. This particular group of paintings on display was inspired by the discovery of the Higgs Boson particle this summer by […]

Showing at Vienna’s Inoperable Gallery currently, Damn Straight is Kid Acne’s latest body of work with a focus on his stabby women characters. We love these tough sisters of the sword, and the whole mystical world that surrounds them. Graphite drawings, one-off screen prints, mono-prints and paintings are presented along with some of the ouija boards (with a Yorkshire flava) we saw back at his 2009 London show When The Smoke Clears and a series of architectural renderings (hang-outs of the stabby women, we presume). Kid […]
