Before checking in at the hotel, we walked over to the Riverside Art Museum to get a glimpse of the yearly associated exhibition which this time is entitled Baby Tattooville Inside Out: A Private Affair Made Public with the opening scheduled for tonight (October 5th). Artists who are participating this year include Coop, Mark Frauenfelder, Brandi Milne, Nouar, Kathie Olivas, Nathan Ota, Brandt Peters, Ragnar, […]

After pointing out a great collaboration recently from REVOK and RIME in Detroit, we now bring your attention to another joint mural – this time from Roid and SatOne in London where the Munich-based artist was in town participating in the Futurism 2.0 show (also see the Joker, Shok-1 and Remi Rough wall). With EndoftheLine for providing the wallspace, SatOne brought his distinctive style and combined it nicely with local star Roid’s mastery of geometric forms… Via Graffuturism. Discuss SatOne here.
Opening Friday night (October 5th) in Copenhagen at the V1 Gallery, Free To be You & Me is the newest solo show from Todd James. The imagery in this new body work continues to be dominated by his colorful chain-smoking pirate characters, brandishing weapons and causing mischief. The NY graf legend, otherwise known as REAS, will also be installing a recreation of the Vandal’s Bedroom (seen above) that premiered at the Art In The Streets exhibition at the MOCA in Los Angeles. Those who had the chance to attend Borrowed Memories (previewed) this past weekend at Thinkspace Gallery were treated to a wonderful exhibition of new works by Tran Nguyen and Stella Im Hultberg (installation above). We last saw a solo by Tran back in July last year and a Hultberg solo hasn’t been any easier to come by (March 2010 – London). Fans will want to make use of this opportunity and visit before the close of the exhibition on October 20th. Discuss this show here. Discuss […]
Last week, Casio G-Shock hosted a retrospective for legendary New York graffiti artist Eric Haze (featured). To celebrate their 4th collaboration in 15 years, Casio took a different approach to this showing – they worked with Eric to curate an exhibition that showcases their commercial design work over the past 3 decades. Seeing the range of Haze’s creative range from the bat haze logo, collaboration with Keith Haring, bearbricks, bikes and even motorcycles really gave us a deeper appreciation of the dynamic range he possesses. Here is a sneak peak below… Words by Manuel Bello. Discuss Trustocorp here.
We recently gave you a first look at Barry McGee mural that was in progress at Brooklyn’s Mark Morris Dance Group. Now, the mural which incorporates the Bay Area legend’s classic portrait heads and geometric designs has been completed. With the assistance from Colossal Media, the eight story high mural took about a week to finish. Seen from the local streets, this well using Twist’s signature cluster panel paintings was a sight to behold. Check out the details below…. Discuss Barry McGee here.

AM has always seen Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed) as much as a storyteller as an artist since we became immersed in his work a number of years ago. His latest solo exhibition opens this Thursday at Portland’s Breeze Block Gallery and is entitled Each Story In This Story Has A Story. Heartfelt sentiments interlaced with abstracted narrative, explosive colours and the very tightest of line-work are just some of the elements that are to be found within his work. We got to spend some time with Mark and […]
Chris Johanson has always been known for his bold use of raw materials and exuberant color pallet. Well ladies and gentleman, he has done it again with his latest show titled Windows now showing at Mitchell-Innes & Nash. This latest show is a slight departure from Johanson’s usual work with less incorporation of figurative illustration and more emphasis on the meditative qualities of art making. Johanson approached this body of work as not only art and sculpture in the literal sense, but with the metaphysical in mind […]
On a recent visit to the Bay Area, AM got to visit the Oakland studio of artist Brett Amory just as he was in full scale preparations for his upcoming exhibition Twenty-Four In San Francisco. A continuation of Brett’s widely known Waiting series, Twenty-Four focuses its attentions on 24 locations as the subject of 24 new paintings – with 24 hours of filming taken at the locations to capture a dynamic revealed by human interactions with residents in the city. Above, Brett shows us some of the […]
