AM friends and super French art duo Supakitch and Koralie were recently in Gothenburg, Sweden, for the set-up and opening of “Kimono Fusion,” an exhibition of Japanese fashion mixed with pop, street and graffiti culture at the Varldskultur (World Culture) Museum. In addition to having work in the show, the two spent a few days creating an amazing mural, documented in the video above. Check it out, as well as some still shots from Kimono Fusion after the jump.

One of the finest galleries in Los Angeles, Regen Projects, recently opened a show of “New Paintings” by Lari Pittman. The vibrant, bright, vivid, and colorful paintings include a mixture of abstraction and figuration, each one intricate and expertly painted. The works feature a dichotomy of “renewal/decay, secular/sacred, decorative/grotesque, hot/cold, sweet/toxic, taste/kitsch, mannered/unpredictable, transparency/opacity”. Opening tonight, September 30th, at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles will be a new series of seven paintings from Roland Tamayo (interviewed). Showing alongside Ben Strawn in a joint show is entitled “With Ease”, Roland will be showing paintings with his signature nature / technology juxtapositions. There’s been a lot of buzz between Toronto and Brooklyn regarding Jose Parla’s incredible mural/installation called The Concord Project. We’ve pieced together this moving story with the help of our friend Simon at Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto. As previewed by AM, Prism opened Misericordia last Friday night to a excited and fashionable Los Angeles crowd. The show featured the excellent curatorial (the show was curated by Birte Kleemann, Director at The Pace Gallery) quality you expect from Prism and included pieces by some of the best artists working today, like Terence Koh, Sterling Ruby, and Chris Burden, alongside some works that were hundreds of years old. Friends and LA-based artists Edwin Ushiro’s (interviewed) and Yoskay Yamamoto (featured) made their way northwest to attend the opening of their latest joint show at the Roq La Rue a couple of weeks ago. Yoskay bought some works on a new medium for him – paper – as well as some sweet wood sculptures all entitled “lost stories and found memories”. Last month we brought you a teaser of Kaws with his ginormous 5 meter high companion. Created to greet guests entering Kowloon’s Harbour City in for Hong Kong, the awe inspiring figure has arrived safely for it’s October 3rd opening entitled “Passing Through”. It appears that the city is preparing for the opening with assorted character wall paper installations to compliment the exhibition at the main entrances.
