A closer look at Kaws’ upcoming work in Hong Kong. Banksy Hastings stencil defaced by Team Robbo already. Aiko to hit up Shanghai. It’s not good to get drunk carrying a $1.3 million painting around. Surprise surprise. The French are appalled with Murakami’s work. Gagosian to open Paris gallery. Damien Hirst accused of 8 counts of plagarism. What if the world’s richest man collected art? This is how he rolls. Stella Im Hultberg gets raw – in her sketchbook. Nate Frizzell is switching to oils […]

A couple days ago, we shared with you the concept sketch of Takashi Murakami’s float contributions for this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. With Kaikai and Kiki set to take flight down 34th street this fall, we thought it would be nice to give you a look at the creative process for getting these two characters from Superflat icons to real life floats. Lots of work went into getting the actual proposal to the Macy’s parade committee, from the initial 2-D sketch to the clay molding figures […]

We just got wind of a pretty cool project Os Gemeos has been working on – an animated feature based on their beloved imagery and characters. Although the twins are using more traditional methods, this brings to mind Blu and his graffiti-animations. We can’t wait to see what the brothers from Brazil will bring with their imagination in this new medium. Check out a short snippet in the video above entitled “It’s Snowing” which is loosely based on the Russian clown show – Slava’s SnowShow. […]

We have been long time admirers of Matthew Feyld’s work here of AM, and we’ve watched him hone his skills over the last few years with numerous group and solo showings. The quality and precision of the Canadian artist is second to none and the fine detail of his line work has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated. Lately, Feyld’s work has been moving away from the largely figurative body of work seen in the past and more towards abstraction whilst still maintaining […]

Sometimes, you just need to get away from it all. That’s exactly what Dave Kinsey did for his upcoming show at New York’s Joshua Liner Gallery by moving up to Central California’s Three Rivers and focusing his energy into this fresh body of work. The head of Blk/Mrkt took his game to nature’s back yard, retreating from his urban studio in Los Angeles and from what we see, it’s given this new collection of paintings a whole new dimension. AM brings you an inside look into Mr. Kinsey’s […]

Takashi Murakami is coming back to show in New York City, but this time, he’s in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. His contributions will be two specially designed floats of his studio mascots “Kaikai” and “Kiki”. With massive heads measuring 16 feet wide, it’ll be a pretty unforgettable impression these two Superflat characters will make when their larger than life helium filled bodies float down the streets of the Big Apple. We even dug up an old animation of Kaikai & Kiki in action […]

Earlier this year, we stopped by the Torrence studio of Greg “Craola” Simkin to catch a preview of his knockout show at Joshua Liner Gallery and experienced an eyeful of goodness from the talented artist. The 300 page book of his drawings is set to make it’s debut at this year’s […]
