After six months of studio time, and a week in the gallery prior to the opening installing his latest exhibition, Richard Colman opened his “Keep Out The Light” exhibition at New Image Art recently. We have been watching out for updates on how the show was coming together, as Colman’s shows are usually very installation heavy, and always exciting. Richard was pounding the tools until the early hours each day with the install, and the scale & intensity of this show certainly doesn’t disappoint – […]

We all know that Ben Eine’s alphabet shutters can brighten up any street right? Well, we were surprised that before now, Ben had never actually painted a full alphabet down one street, so AM went along to see how Middlesex Street in London, was getting turned into Alphabet Street. A new gallery in town, Electric Blue, had liaised with the local proprietors and shop owners and agreed that the shutters could be painted by Eine all along this largely ‘unpainted’ area sandwiched between Liverpool St […]

This past Saturday, AM saw the return of Skullphone to his home of Los Angeles. The show “Digital Media” takes a closer look and questions the viewer about their relationship with technology. Skullphone always has packed opening, but this was one of the few where you had to line up and wait for the “one in one out” if you didn’t get there early. The pieces on display were visually stimulating and utilized Skullphone’s signature dot technique with pieces that were hand-composed with enamel and […]

AM had the pleasure to visit with Todd Schorr (interviewed) last week in his studio as he was putting on the finishing touches for his upcoming show at Otis College of Art and Design at the end of this month (June 26th). The exhibition entitled “Designed for Extinction” will be similar to his highly successful show last year at the San Jose Museum of Art (covered) in the sense that it will be a retrospective. Based on the successful turnouts at both the London’s Phillips de Pury and New York’s Deitch Projects release parties the past few weeks, it’s safe to say that Gestalten’s “Beyond the Street: The 100 Leading Figures in Urban Art” by Patrick Nguyen and Stuart Mackenzie was very well received. Now we’re sure some of those that have picked up the book may have wondered why a few urban art cornerstone’s were not included? But after talking with one of the book’s Authors, some obvious artists (Ahem… Banksy, Barry McGee, and a few […]

The first stop of the Culver City Artwalk for AM was the group show at LeBasse Projects. Along with a strong lineup of gallery regulars, artists new to us such as Jean-Pierre Roy were featured during this annual event. His colorful paintings of imaginary landscapes drew us in with their dream-like vibrancy and fancy. More pics after the jump…
