After recently creating a video for Pringle of Scotland, photographer Ryan McGinley has moved on to the next project in his young directing career. “Lightness Of Being An Olympian” is a video he directed for the New York Times about the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. In it, you can see some nice visuals and the characteristic color work that McGinley is famous for in some of his photography. Of course, the project also allowed him to document some of the action in a […]

A pretty big show that seems to have been flying under the radar is KAWS’ upcoming show this month in Spain. Galería Javier López will be paying host to a new body of work from the New York-based street turned contemporary artist with the opening set for February 17th. It’s been almost a year since his solo at Honor Fraser and we’re sure that we aren’t the only ones fiendin’ for their KAWS fix. Discuss KAWS here.

Showing alongside Miss Van tonight at Merry Karnowsky Gallery is Barcelona-based artist Victor Castillo. He follows up his debut show there last August with a new body of work entitled “Strange Fruit.” His deeply satirical work often takes what initially seem like harmless children – well, sausage nosed children – which on second look are engaged in situations they should not be involved in, with dangerous overtones all around. These children and their supposed innocence are appropriated for his commentary on subjects ranging from politics […]

As mentioned earlier this week, street artist Roa has brought his outside work indoors for his show in Paris at Galerie Itinerrance. We were wondering if the scale of the Belgium-based artist would translate well in a gallery setting, but it seems with plenty of large murals, he has answered with a resounding “Yes!” Looks like he has also preserved some of the nuances of his work that has generated the most favor with his fan base like the peeks at the inner anatomy of […]

The last time we heard from French street artist Miss Van, she was opening her retrospective show at StolenSpace in London in October of ’09. Fans on this side of the pond will be happy to hear that they will have a chance to see her seductive “poupes” in person as she will be opening “She-Wolves” this Saturday night at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. For this body of work, her feminine “dolls” reflect on their predatory nature and and surrender to their animal […]

You may recall a project we told you about recently between Kehinde Wiley and PUMA for the World Cup this year. If you remember, the exhibition of paintings Kehinde created of three African soccer stars as well as a portrait with all three together representing the unity of Africa traveled to Berlin for an official unveiling. It has now moved on to Paris and Guillotine has all the pics including the individual portraits. More pics after the jump.

Since 1975, BMW has commissioned many legendary artists to add their vision of automotive design to their renowned “Art Car” program, some of which we saw on a visit to LACMA. From Andy Warhol to Alexander Calder to Roy Lichtenstein, each iconic artist makes their own unique artistic twist on the “Ultimate Driving Machine”. And for the 17th edition, Jeff Koons was selected to participate in this storied tradition. To celebrate, Jeff opened up his studio for a rare peek into his Manhattan “factory” located […]
