AM stopped by earlier this month to check out the “LOST” show at Gallery 1988 (LA) only to be confronted by a long line of fans that lined up overnight as well as a media frenzy that ensued. We did manage to get inside and snap some pics of the artwork eventually for all to enjoy. It was nice to see many of the characters we love remixed and reinterpreted into paintings that were often subtle and well conceived. Take a look after the jump…

One of the booths we were really impressed with during Art Basel Week was Joshua Liner Gallery’s showcase at SCOPE. It was a diverse group reflecting some of his successes this year from represented artists such as Matsu (interviewed), Kris Kuksi, and Evan Hecox. In addition, the show offered a sneak preview of the tremendous talent in stored for the coming year with works by Dave Kinsey, Dave Kassan, Tony Kanali, Tiffany Bozik, and Travis Louie (interviewed. More images after the jump…

After perusing some of the goings-on in Iran this morning, we coincidentally came across a couple of images that reminded us of the unrest we have been seeing over there. The first is from Escif, an artist from Spain that we saw on the excellent Unurth site (also see their interview with him here). And, the second is a drawing from Armsrock (seen after the jump), whom we interviewed recently.

Vernissage TV was on hand to document one of the shows we enjoyed during our visit to Miami for Art Basel Week. As we previously mentioned, Chicago- based artist Dzine brought his sculptures, paintings and installations for an exhibition at the Bass Museum of Art with a custom chandelier and “ghost bike” being some of the standout pieces. Take a look as he walks through and explains his work. Discuss Art Basel week here.

As certain as seeing rain if you go to Seattle, there are some artists we expect to see during any art fair. So, on our first lap through Art Basel, we were alarmed to not find much work of Japanese blue chipper Yoshitomo Nara. But, after a closer look at his represented galleries including Tomio Koyama and Marianne Boesky, we found lots of love behind the curtain hidden away from the casual fair-goers. Long an AM favorite, we saw some rather unique techniques that are […]

Earlier this year, AM visited the UK to hang with the talented Ian Francis in his Bristol studio. The groundbreaking artist has long been a favorite and it was especially rewarding to get an insider’s view of Ian’s workspace. A man of many techniques, Ian is known for his beautiful compositions in which he blends colorful abstracts with laser precise details, creating dreamy masterpieces that resonate with fans around the world. Many of his powerful creations often utilize hand painted characters, so intricately drawn and […]

After a busy year trekking around the world, the dynamic duo of Herakut (interviewed) has been heads down working on another series of works. Our friend Frankie from Camp Barbossa did a little “drive-by” of their studio and sent us some images for a little sneak peak. More after the jump.

After some angst about getting recognition for his hand-painted art (here & here) as opposed to his “factory” produced pieces, Damien Hirst returns briefly to more commercial endeavors. No stranger to artist collaborations, Louis Vuitton joined up with Hirst to produce what looks to be a new line of luggage with his signature butterflies and effects. Judging from all the compartments, the piece pictured might not be useful for the casual traveller as Hirst’s inspiration was storage for surgical instruments. Take a closer look at […]

If you haven’t seen Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) stunning new body of work yet, do yourself a favor and stop by Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York or check out our coverage here. On a related note, Audrey is polling her fans to see which print they want to see released next – “Yuuwaku,” “Migawari,” “Meisai,” “Hyakki Yakou,” or “Mezmeru Mae Ni” – all from her current show. The release will be one of her rare “time limited” prints, meaning during a designated time period, the […]

In this video, we see Ron English (featured) painting another version of Picasso’s “Guernica” (outdoor version at Primary Flight) at the Medicine Agency Gallery. The mural, seen in the timelapse above was created to coincide with the release of his Mandala Grin puzzle being put out by TOTT Global. Via Ron English Juxtapoz blog. Discuss Ron English here.
