Shepard Fairey did some urban “spring cleaning” in Austin this past weekend in time for the SXSW Festival. Visiting the Lone Star state with buckets of wheat paste and some good old fashion Obey elbow grease, Shepard hit up many prominent spots including Lance Armstrong’s Bike Shop: Mellow Johnny’s, Red 7, Emos, Home Slice, and many more. Luke Chueh’s “From Light Cometh Darkness” (previewed) opened last night at Corey Helford Gallery. Anticipating a big crowd, AM dropped by Corey Helford about an hour before the show opening to take pictures of Luke’s artwork. Japan’s Mizuma gallery made quite a splash at this year’s Armory, selling out most of the art they imported from the land of the rising sun. As usual, their booth was filled with some of Japan’s notables: Akino Kondoh, Sashie Masakatsu, Makoto Aida, Aoyama Satoru, and Tanada Koji to name a few.
