Openings: Ai Weiwei – “absent” @ Taipei Fine Arts Museum (Part I)

AM recently visited Taiwan to catch  Ai Weiwei’s absent exhibition at the TFAM (Taipei Fine Arts Museum). As the show’s title implies, Ai Weiwei was not present for the opening as he’s still working on clearing his previous “issues” with his home country’s government. This museum show of the controversial Chinese artist is practically a retrospective ,with spanning works from 1983-present, giving the people of Taiwan a taste of the talent and unique point of view that Ai brings to the table. The showing encompasses a broad range of his mediums such as ceramics, marble, photography, reclaimed wood, video and even bicycles (more on that later).

Stay tuned for more later where we give you in depth looks at two important portions of this exhibition and also a special giveaway of the show catalog from the museum. For now check out a detailed look at this great exhibition after the jump…

We feel you Ai...

i love AWW’s expression and rebellion and the way he voices out. just with the simple photos of ancient chinese pottery and simple breaking has so many interpretation, i look at all his work and i just go in deep thought, and it not only stems from what he’s trying to convey but how i am trying to convey the meaning, and with that meaning the factors his beliefs… representations of a cracked communist country, ideals that are materialistic and hypocritical.. ahhh i can just go on and on.. <3
