Openings: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery (Part 2)

Following directly on from Part 1 of our coverage of the busy Space//Form opening, AM now delves a little deeper pictorially into the artwork created for this huge group exhibition of 110 artists with a series of pictures where the art is more viewable (like the Mark Dean Veca installation above). To recap, all of the participating artists were given an identical 10×10 inch cradled timber panel by exhibition sponsor Ampersand as the medium to work on. The exhibition curator, Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis chose a brief […]

Openings: Mr. – “Metamorphosis: Give Me Your Wings” @ Lehmann Maupin

On Thursday, Kaikai Kiki artist Mr. returned for a second showing with New York’s Lehmann Maupin Gallery. The former protégé of Takashi Murakami put forth a more serious body of work entitled Metamorphosis – Give Me Your Wings that was reflected in a dense installation that literally littered the space with common pop & household objects. At the center of the exhibition space was a gigantic caterpillar created by these items, which is intended to convey the current state of Japan’s metamorphosis in contrast to the perceived […]

Openings: Steve “ESPO” Powers – “A Word Is Worth A Thousand Pictures” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Steve “ESPO” Powers’ (featured) recently opened a solo show in New York for the first time in seven years and it was a doozy. As mentioned in our studio visit (here & here), this new body of work entitled A Word is Worth A Thousand Pictures was fresh and to the point in a manner that is simply ESPO-esqe. Exhibited at Joshua Liner Gallery, works large and small from tremendous enamel on aluminum centerpieces to delicate nuggets of wisdoms called Daily Metaltations were on display. Created […]
