Update: Shawn Barber

Have you been wondering what Shawn Barber’s (featured) has been up to since his solo at Joshua Liner in May (covered)? It looks like he’s still hard at work doing what he loves – paint.  Here you see him working on a huge painting of Shigenori Iwasaki (more photos after the jump), possibly for his show at Fecal Face Gallery in July next year. More detailed views after the jump…

Streets: Blu (France)

Another masterpiece from Blu went up in Rennes recently with the artist painting a creature made from our unwanted and discarded trash. Perhaps like the Tin Man in “The Wizard of Oz”, it seems to have found a heart for itself. Take a closer look after the jump…

Setup: Erica Il Cane – “We Were Living In The Woods” @ Fifty24SF

It looks like Erica Il Cane has started to transform the Fifty24SF space into a personal playground for his whimsical characters with paintings as well as murals inside and outside of the gallery. Rhinomilk (AM:SF) visited the Italian street artist and took some pics of the setup for you to peruse ahead of the opening of his show “We Were Living In The Woods” (previewed) tomorrow night. Openings: Frieze Art Fair 2010 – Part I

Like Basel week for Switzerland and Armory week for New York, London has a signature week for art and it’s centralized around the Frieze Art Fair. This year, AM made the trip out to catch the well produced affair which was overwhelming in the amount of art displayed. Like most major art fairs, we needed to go back after day one to soak in more visual goodness. On our first pass, we stumbled on some notable works from George Condo, fresh photos from Ryan McGinley and a new direction from […]

Openings: “Pattern Recognition” @ Subliminal Projects

Last weekend, Subliminal Projects played host to “Pattern Recognition”, a group exhibition from a great set of artists including Seonna Hong, Nikki McClure, Dalek (interviewed), Richard Colman (interviewed), and Souther Salazar. Particularly eye catching for us were the colorful works of Seonna and Souther although the works of Dalek and Colman seemed to fit the premise of the show a little more closely. More opening pics after the jump…

Preview: Chris Peters – “Live and Let Die” @ Copro Gallery

Possessing the rare skill of creating life after death, Chris Peters will once again bring his emotive skeletal creatures to the Bergamot Station in Santa Monica this Saturday night, November 13th. “Live and Let Die” at the Copro Gallery showcases Peters’ visions of how death is but a bridge to the next journey where our bony remains can still find love, hope, peace, and even religion. More preview images after the jump…

Reminder: Ron English – “Status Factory” @ Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion (OCC)

Apparently, that mural Ron English (featured) was working on in Miami that we first brought you here is completed.  He ended with a cool extension of the wall piece onto the ground and with the placement of some of his “Camo Deer” figures. We first saw these pieces at his impressive “Status Factory” pop-up show in New York (covered) and for west coast fans of his work, make sure you stop by on Friday night (November 12th) as the show moves to the Frank M. […]

Interviews: Best|Ever

Best|Ever is the collective nom de guerre of Neil Edwards and Hadley Newman. The duo have been painting together for the last years and their photo-realistic spray-can work has sent ripples of excitement through us here at AM since we first witnessed their highly technical, but equally soulful work. Since presenting a showcase of their work in London earlier this year, they are now set to roll with a full-on solo show ‘Some Anatomies of Melancholy’, opening this Thursday, November 11th at Blackall Studios. We […]
