Preview: “La Luz de Jesus 25″ Part II

After hosting the first part of their 25th anniversary group show last month, La Luz De Jesus makes room for the opening of round two of the festivities on November 4th. With such a rich and storied tradition and one of the early visionaries in the game, Billy Shire, as the gallery owner, the long list of participants necessitated splitting the celebration into two parts. Next up is a lineup that includes Ana Bagayan, Shawn Barber, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Bob Dob, Michael Hussar, Jordin Isip, Jessica [...]

Baby Tattooville ’11: “Baby Tattooville On Parade” Opening @ Riverside Art Museum

One of the biggest benefits for artists participating in the annual Baby Tattooville celebration is having their work exhibited in the Riverside Art Museum for all to see even after the exclusive weekend festivities end (you have about five weeks – until Nov. 8 – to catch show).  Entering its fifth year of hosting exhibitions featuring BT artists, this collection is a retrospective of sorts that includes works from those that have had their work in the annual show in the past. The star-studded line-up [...]

Preview: “Blab!” @ Copro Gallery

With a plethora of great shows opening in Los Angeles this weekend, not to mention the world, there is no way we can write about everything unfortunately (you can always join our forum for a more extensive calendar). Another gallery you should add to your list is the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica as they will be hosting seventh annual BLAB! SHOW, previewing artwork from the upcoming volumes of BLABWORLD No. 2 and 3.

Familiar regulars such as Nicoletta Ceccoli, Travis Louie, Martin Wittfooth, Ana Bagayan, Brian Despain, Dan May, Shag, Andy Kehoe, and some other talent new to AM will be painting their versions of the mythical creature. Judging from the piece above, there will be some spanking and other punishments in Seattle when this Friday, August 12th rolls around. More preview [...]

Preview: Sea No Evil 2011

Time flies!  The annual Sea No Evil benefit auction ($10 donation required at the door) is fast approaching – in fact, it’s this Saturday, June 25th. It seems the lineup and art included in show just gets better each year (see 2010 and 2009), so you will want to be at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium starting at 6pm that night as She Wants Revenge will be playing and Captain Watson from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be speaking. But more importantly for >

Openings: “Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wes Anderson” @ Spoke Art

It appears two things motivate Bay Area residents with a vengeance; Halloween and Wes Anderson. The effects of both were on full display during Spoke Art’s Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wed Anderson (previewed) group exhibition. Curated by our friend Ken Harman, managing online editor over at Hi-Fructose, the event served as the best excuse humanly possible to break out the cowboy hats, track suites, headbands and Zissuo red beanies in honor of one of the finest writer/directors of our generation. Despite the excellent costume [...]

Happy Halloween from Ana Bagayan

For those of you who follow Ana Bagayan’s (interviewed) work, you may be used to something a little more cheerful than this new series of drawings. Inspired by the Halloween spirit, Ana seems to have found a theme for these pieces that will be part of her solo show at FB69 Gallery next February in Germany. Take a look are more creepy samples after the jump…
