Baby Tattooville ’11: “Baby Tattooville On Parade” Opening @ Riverside Art Museum

One of the biggest benefits for artists participating in the annual Baby Tattooville celebration is having their work exhibited in the Riverside Art Museum for all to see even after the exclusive weekend festivities end (you have about five weeks – until Nov. 8 – to catch show).  Entering its fifth year of hosting exhibitions featuring BT artists, this collection is a retrospective of sorts that includes works from those that have had their work in the annual show in the past. The star-studded line-up […]

Baby Tattooville ’11: Diesel Fuel Print Set

We’ll have a final roundup of the “goodie bag” and all the items that paying attendees of this year’s Baby Tattooville retreat receive at the end of the weekend (you already saw the special poster and museum catalog), but here’s another taste courtesy of Diesel Fuel Prints. A regular attendee all the way from Portland, with a special 5 year anniversary BT print set.  Included are images from Tara McPherson, Brandi Milne, Luke Chueh, Van Arno, Yoskay Yamamoto, KMNDZ, SHAG, and William Stout. Baby Tattooville ’11: Circus Punk Customs

Circus Punk customs are a new addition to Baby Tattooville. 50 blank pieces were available for attending artists to paint and work on. Once finished, these customs will be arranged in rows and BT attendees will have the chance to compete for them. Similar to what is done at fairs, attendees will get to throw at these and try to knock them down. Each person will then get to keep the custom that he or she strikes. Baby Tattooville ’11: Art Jam Begins

Baby Tattooville’s Art Jam is easily the most recognized event of this special weekend and has existed since Baby Tattooville’s very first year (see 2010, 2009, 2008). As always, artists in attendance are given the freedom to contribute to the large collaboration piece at anytime during the weekend up until the deadline on Saturday night. Upon completion of the painting Saturday night, the work is used to produce prints overnight that attendees will receive Sunday morning. See photos by Carlos Gonzalez of the early stages […]

Baby Tattooville ’11: Blacksmith Tony Swatton

This year, Baby Tattooville “secret society” members were treated to something completely different from previous years. Master Blacksmith Tony Swatton, known to many as THE blacksmith of Hollywood, was invited to BT’s 5th year anniversary. Samples of Swatton’s work were displayed throughout the Mission Inn Catacombs. This included helmets, swords, and armor pieces that are similar to those created by Swatton for the Capital One commercials and Pirates of the Caribbean movies we are all so familiar with. Swatton took requests from attendees and produced […]

Baby Tattooville ’11: Secret Store

One of the highlights of the art retreat known as Baby Tattooville is the special pop-up store that is set up each year. Filled with unique prints, toys, art products, and original art from participating artists, the “Secret Store” is a good opportunity for fans to stock up on their favorite artist swag. Sales are handled according to the number assigned to each attendee based on seniority. More preview images after the jump…

Baby Tattooville ’10 – Art Jam

Baby Tattooville’s Art Jam is the artist activity that has received the most attention at each BT weekend. This is not without great reason as this annual fixture involves every individual artist at BT. During Art Jam, all of the featured and returning artists are welcomed to join together in creating a once-in-a-lifetime collaborative piece. This historic painting is started on opening day and is jointly worked on until the following night. BT guests are free to witness every moment of the piece’s completion. A […]

Baby Tattooville ’10: Gift Bag and Goodies

One of the biggest barriers confronting many who consider attending Baby Tattooville is the cost. Although it may seem a little pricey, what you receive in return more than makes up for it. Beyond the experience of spending a weekend elbow-to-elbow with your favorite artists, staying in one of the best hotels in Southern California and being surrounded by like-minded friends, BT attendees get to take home a plethora of amazing stuff, including original art, prints, toys, books, stickers and magazines.
