Previews: RAE – “Unconventional Conviction” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Opening this Saturday at Brooklynite Gallery is “Unconventional Conviction,” the first solo show by Brooklynite’s own Rae McGrath. Stepping out from his role as the gallery’s owner and curator, RAE will now get to experience how the other half lives by exhibiting his own artwork. Rae’s work consists of pop-art mixed media pieces created from the vivid colored plastic and labels of laundry detergent bottles, as well as black and white photography of everyday people. The combination of styles exemplifies the energy and diversity of […]

Openings: Guy Denning & David Walker – “Surface Tension” @ Brooklynite Gallery

AM recently took a visit into Bedstuy’s Brooklynite Gallery to hang out and see their latest show “Surface Tension”. The exhibition comprised of works from two artists whose works seemingly take different directions. David Walker’s brighter palates and literal/photo-realistic portraits are created without a single brushstroke; in fact, only spray paint is used. The faces seemed to come together between the metallic and bright hues. On the other side of the coin we also enjoyed Guy Denning’s darker and deeper figurative painting. Utilizing oil and turpentine, […]

Showing: Spector, Various & Gould – “Make It Fit” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Currently showing at the Brooklynite Gallery is “Make It Fit” (previewed), a show featuring Brooklyn-based artist Specter and the German duo of Various & Gould. We showed previously, a little of what Various & Gould were doing on the streets, but here is a look at the duo combining with Specter in taking over the gallery space with installations and standalone pieces. More pics after the jump…

Preview: “Make It Fit” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Opening this Saturday at Bed Stuy’s vanguard Brooklynite Gallery is “Make It Fit,” a show featuring Brooklyn-based artist Specter and the German duo of Various & Gould. The theme of the exhibition is “work,” with the artists using their skill and ingenuity to transform found and discarded materials into a visual investigation of what the concept of work means to them. We anticipate that the artists will not only transform the materials, but the gallery itself, making it into an installation best experienced in person. […]

Openings: Peru Ana Ana Peru “…And Then We Jumped Into the Abyss of Numbers” @ Brooklynite Gallery

AM was invited to Bed Stuy’s Brooklynite Gallery this weekend to witness Peru Ana Ana Peru putting the finishing touches on their gallery debut “…And Then We Jumped Into the Abyss of Numbers.” Up until now, the enigmatic duo have mostly been known for their cryptic eponymous tags found throughout Brooklyn. With this exhibition, however, PAAP show that their art goes beyond merely a puzzling name. It turns out that the pair are film-makers, who were enticed in recent years by New York’s street art […]

Openings: Dain – “Copesetic” @ Brooklynite Gallery

“Copesetic” is the name of Dain’s first ever solo show at the Brooklynite Gallery. It means “fine and dandy,” a throwback term from the early 1940’s. When Brooklynite released the preview video for the show (here), it seemed hilarious and appropriate for the “old school” themed show. Little did we know that Rae and Hope of Brooklynite were going to literally transform the ENTIRE gallery into a replica New York “Speakeasy” complete with crystal chandeliers, floor to ceiling wall paper, and even transforming their outdoor […]

Preview/Video: I Am Dain – A Followup

Brooklynite Gallery recently released a second mockumentary on NYC street artist DAIN via their Brooklynite TV. Dain’s latest show, “Copacetic” opens this Saturday at the Brooklyn hot spot.  While last month’s Ben Frost show featured the legendary DJ Kool Herc, this month Brooklynite is taking it way back with a 10 piece orchestra.  For those of you unable to attend, the opening will be streamed live on Brooklynite TV. Part one of the video for those who missed it the first time.  After the jump….

Preview: Miss Bugs & Joe Black – “2 Many Artists” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Miss Bugs and Joe Black are opening up the fresh show “2 Many Artists” at the cutting edge Brooklynite Gallery this Saturday, 4/4. The show hosts the talents of these two unique United Kingdom street artists that are anything but trite. Miss Bugs creates some awesome works by wielding silkscreens, collages and whatever is lying around to assemble relevant pop images that stir the imagination. Joe Black creates photo realistic images via found mediums such as Legos and ball bearings. Can’t wait for the show to […]

Brooklynite Gallery launches online shop

Bed Stuy’s one and only Brooklynite Gallery has just added an online shop to their Web site, which contains a nice selection of well-priced prints and originals by the likes of emerging artists Ben Frost (pictured above), Remed, ZBIOK and others. The email announcement went out earlier this morning, and already a few pieces have sold, so it seems that at least someone out there is in the holiday shopping spirit. If you are still in need of that perfect gift for your art lover […]
