Time flies… This year’s Baby Tattooville (see our 2009 and 2010 coverage) is creeping up on us and will go down the weekend of October 7-9. Scheduled as a reunion of sorts, much of the alumni will be returning so those attending will be surrounded by an even larger contingent of artists. Baby Tattooville ’10 – Art Jam

Baby Tattooville’s Art Jam is the artist activity that has received the most attention at each BT weekend. This is not without great reason as this annual fixture involves every individual artist at BT. During Art Jam, all of the featured and returning artists are welcomed to join together in creating a once-in-a-lifetime collaborative piece. One of the biggest barriers confronting many who consider attending Baby Tattooville is the cost. Although it may seem a little pricey, what you receive in return more than makes up for it. Beyond the experience of spending a weekend elbow-to-elbow with your favorite artists, staying in one of the best hotels in Southern California and being surrounded by like-minded friends, BT attendees get to take home a plethora of amazing stuff, including original art, prints, toys, books, stickers and magazines. Baby Tattooville 2010 featured a special tribute to Robert Williams. From helping pave the way for young artists to founding JUXTAPOZ magazine, Robert Williams has been an enormous influence on alternative art. That influence is immeasurable. Michael Hussar returned for Baby Tattooville 2010 and once again graciously hosted one of the key events of the special weekend. Each night, Hussar’s suite became the site for non-stop late night festivities. BT attendees joined in on sketching the models in one room, while artists such as Ron English, Johnny “KMNDZ” Rodriguez, Van Arno and Robert Williams could be seen participating in photoshoots with the models, sketching under Sketch Theatre and just flat out partying. Baby Tattooville attendees get to bring home loads of goodies, including one-of-a-kind unique original works that they receive as part of their membership, but there is also the opportunity to purchase even more spectacular original art at the Art Sale. Mission Inn’s notorious catacombs, once an underground museum that led mainly to Mt. Rubidoux and the nearby Riverside Evergreen Cemetery, had long been entirely closed off to the public. Baby Tattooville attendees were lucky enough to be the first group gained admission to these catacombs at Baby Tattooville 2009. Baby Tattooville attendees more often than not are also collectors and lovers of art products. As such, one of their favorite BT activities is shopping at the Secret Store that pops up every yearly gathering. A plethora of goodies were available at the shop, ranging from this year’s featured artists to past ones.
