Showing: Aaron Young – “The Right Way To Do Wrong” @ Gagosian Gallery (Bevery Hills)

It’s not enough that Southern California currently enjoys perfect sunshiny weather while New York freezes. It also has to rub it in by currently being home to terrific shows with NYC-based artists Faile and Aaron Young – all under one roof.  Young, formerly of San Francisco and a Yale MFA, boasts a solo show in the first floor of the prestigious Gagosian Gallery in the famous 90210 zip code. Recently, AM visited the exhibition and would like to treat you all to what we saw. More […]

Shaquille O’Neal curates “Size DOES Matters” @ Flag Art Foundation

NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal is known by many nicknames: “the Big Aristotle”, “the MDE”, “the Big Shaqtus”, “The Big Baryshnikov” and we can now dub him “the Big Curator”? Yup, “the Diesel” is putting yet another one of his “talents” (although sounds like he got some help) to use as he’s curating an exhibition this Friday, February 19th at the Flag Art Foundation in New York. On paper, Shaq certainly seems qualified to be involved with the show, entitled “Size DOES Matters”, as he’s definitely has dealt […]

ARCO Madrid ’10: KAWS

Opening his solo show at Javier Lopez was not that only reason KAWS was in Madrid this week. He was also exhibiting at ARCO Madrid, one of the largest annual art fairs in Europe. Although his new body of work at the gallery was more of a continued exploration of his current style of work, this piece for the fair takes his abstraction to a whole new level with an irregular canvas and blocks of straight color. Experimentation or perhaps a hint of a new […]

Showing: “Meet Me Inside” @ Gagosian Gallery (Beverly Hills)

It’s been a big couple of months for Faile.  With so much going on, such as their collaborative show with BAST in London and their 10-year retrospective at Lazarides Gallery, AM is still trying to catch up with the scorching hot collective.  We recently made the trip to Beverly Hills to view “Meet Me Inside” (previewed), a group show at Gagosian Gallery, to check out their wood puzzle pieces, as well as other spectacular art work by Gagosian’s A-list artists. More after the jump…

Openings: Kaws @ Galeria Javíer López

It looks like KAWS traveled to Spain for the opening of his latest show (previewed) at Galería Javier López in Madrid. Three fresh canvases were on display along with a cool purple bronze. For this new body of work, Brian continues to explore his monotone technique in large paintings of SpongeBob varations and also a surprise return to his iconic Chum in one piece. More after the jump.

Openings: Ito/Kurata/Lansdowne @ Joshua Liner Gallery

It is no secret that we at AM are big fans of the general program that the Joshua Liner Gallery has put together for 2010. Even so, the two exhibitions that the gallery opened last Friday – “From Kojiki to Modern Heroism,” the two-person show featuring Tat Ito and Hiro Kurata, and “Refuge,” Tristram Lansdowne’s (interviewed) solo show – have been particular highlights we have been eagerly awaiting. And rightly so, as all three young artists brought strong collections of new works, impressing everyone in […]

Teaser: Shepard Fairey – “Supply & Demand” @ Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center

Shepard Fairey (featured) is ready to debut his “Supply & Demand” retrospective at the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in Cincinnati this week. The third leg of this traveling show will be a treat for all the folks in the Midwest as events kick off for the public with an opening party on Friday at 8pm. As usual the man with a plan is already beautifying the urban landscapes of Cincy as he did (here & here) with the previous stops at ICA Boston and Warhol […]

Preview: Kaws @ Galeria Javíer López

Recently, we teased you about KAWS’ latest show with Galería Javier López in Madrid. We now see that there are some pics giving us an inside look at the gallery space. Looks like KAWS continuing to work with the monotone technique that we saw at his previous shows with Gering Lopez and OHWOW. It opens tomorrow at 7:30pm so drop by if you can! Check some preview images after the jump.

Openings: “Never a Dull Moment” @ White Walls

Opening alongside Antistrot last weekend in San Francisco (covered) was the phenomenal group show, “Never a Dull Moment” at White Walls. Featuring a stellar lineup including Augustine Kofie, The Clayton Brothers (featured), Remi/Rough, and many more, this latest showing is another expertly curated exhibition by the dandy darling, iO Tillet Wright. Featuring a refreshing blend of both photography and painting, this is one show that truly lives up to it’s name.  More photos after the jump.
