Friday evening, AM decided to duck the over-hyped oncoming threats of Los Angeles’ “Carmageddon” to check out the opening of legendary pop artist COOP’s show Idle Hands at Corey Helford Gallery. With the overwhelming success of Art in the Streets, it seems like LA can’t seem to get enough of street art lately. This weekend, Corey Helford Gallery is showing Blurring The Lines, a throwback to the 80s where graffiti was not looked yet looked upon as art in the public eye. The exhibiton will feature three old school masters – Crash, Freedom and RISK. Curated by our friend Roger Gastman (co-curator of the Art In The Streets Exhibition), this gives us a close up look at the fine artwork of the three artists who were also featured in the MOCA show. Earlier this year, AM brought you coverage of Corey Helford Gallery’s “Art From The New World” summer exhibition at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery in the UK. It was an exciting exhibition and a rare chance for UK art lovers to meet the group of artists in one place on our side of the pond. The new body of work, “Fashionable Aftertaste Without End,” moves to a new focus into the magical world of “Kawaii” (cute in Japanese). Following on from the fantastic preview evening last Friday, Corey Helford Gallery’s “Art from the New World” continued to draw in the crowds on Saturday afternoon for the public opening consisting of a guided tour of the exhibition hosted by the inimitable Gary Baseman and a meet-and-greet signing session with the artists. Baseman held court in the lobby of Bristol City Museum alongside his costumed characters, giving an enjoyable potted history of the new contemporary scene and discussing how he and many of his peers [...]

London got a treat last night in the form of Los Angeles based artist Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) debut UK solo show entitled “Nectar” at StolenSpace gallery (previewed).
