The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt (New York)

Kicking off yesterday, the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt features egg sculptures customized by 260 artists, designers, photographers, architects and other creatives, some seen regularly here on AM. This event is a followup to the successful hunts held in London in 2012 and Dublin in 2013. An app has been created that will allow participants in the search to check in each time an egg is found, with the location hidden until 10 people discover it (prizes will be given out). On April 18th, each egg will be […]

Streets: Dain (New York)

We’ve showed you some of Dain’s gallery work in the past (New York ’09, Paris ’10), but not much of his street work. It looks like what may be new pieces have popped up recently in Brooklyn and luckily for us, the Brooklynite Gallery was around to document it. More after the jump…

Openings: Dain – “Copesetic” @ Brooklynite Gallery

“Copesetic” is the name of Dain’s first ever solo show at the Brooklynite Gallery. It means “fine and dandy,” a throwback term from the early 1940’s. When Brooklynite released the preview video for the show (here), it seemed hilarious and appropriate for the “old school” themed show. Little did we know that Rae and Hope of Brooklynite were going to literally transform the ENTIRE gallery into a replica New York “Speakeasy” complete with crystal chandeliers, floor to ceiling wall paper, and even transforming their outdoor […]

Preview/Video: I Am Dain – A Followup

Brooklynite Gallery recently released a second mockumentary on NYC street artist DAIN via their Brooklynite TV. Dain’s latest show, “Copacetic” opens this Saturday at the Brooklyn hot spot.  While last month’s Ben Frost show featured the legendary DJ Kool Herc, this month Brooklynite is taking it way back with a 10 piece orchestra.  For those of you unable to attend, the opening will be streamed live on Brooklynite TV. Part one of the video for those who missed it the first time.  After the jump….

Openings: From the Streets of Brooklyn @ Thinkspace

Thinkspace and Ad Hoc Art pulled out all the stops for the opening of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased and previewed) and Los Angeles was out in full force, packing the gallery to the brim to scope out the work from Brooklyn’s best graf writers, wheatpasters, muralists, and stencilers. For most patrons, this was their first opportunity to see the work of AIKO, Bast, Chris Stain, Dan Witz, Elbow-Toe, Faile, Skewville, Swoon, Thundercut, and the other participating artists in person. Also on display were three amazing […]

Setup: From the Streets of Brooklyn @ Thinkspace

Continuing our coverage of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased) at Thinkspace opening this Friday, January 9th, AM stopped by the gallery to check out the progress of the installations and to give our readers a peek at some additional pieces featured in the show. Put simply, what we saw was enamoring. With three amazing installations, Ellis G. chalking the streets, and pieces reminiscent of a stroll down a few Brooklyn blocks, including works from heavy-hitters Faile, AIKO, Bast, Elbow-Toe, Gaia, Imminent Disaster, Swoon, and many […]

Opening: Dain, Various & Gould @ Brooklynite

Last night, AM visted Bed-Stuy vanguard Brooklynite Gallery for the opening of Time Machine, featuring work by artists Dain (Brooklyn) and Various and Gould (Berlin). Dain’s offerings consisted of his characteristic colorful images of 1920’s glamour girls. Although similar to his posters wheatpasted throughout NYC, the gallery work is more ellaborate than previously seen, with more layering and detail. Various and Gould collaborated on silkscreen prints on canvas, wood and paper of chimeras of celebrity facial features superimposed with stereotype words. These IDENTIKITS are meant […]
