Openings: David Shillinglaw – ‘You Are Here’ @ Scream (London)

David Shillinglaw (see the studio visit here) recently opened a new solo exhibition entitled You Are Here at Scream Gallery in London. A large crowd gathered to see the re-creation of the studio space of the artist, like an exploration of his creative mind, and enjoyed the new body of work on canvas, paper and wood, featuring symbols and typography with British artist’s signature sunny colour palette. Also brightening up the evening was performance artist Pandemonia present amongst the guests. Talking about the show, David Shillinglaw mentions-  ‘Inspired by the […]

Streets: Living Walls (London)

Moniker Projects and Create teamed up a couple of months ago for Living Walls, a public arts programme for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London. The main idea behind this complex project was to create and cover aprox 2.5 km of the fence around the park with world class street art and installations. After their first part of the undertaking titled Your Ad Here, which was completed at the end of April 2014, the team continued by commissioning four artists to created their take on this unique […]

Openings: “Space//Squared” @ White Walls Gallery

Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format.  Along with pieces from over 100 artists (list seen below), Adam Friedman and Robert Minervini also created a site-specific installation featuring a series of paintings interspersed throughout mural elements. Roster: 2501, Adam Friedman, Adam Weir, Akiko Masker, Alex Lukas, Alicia Dubnyckyj, […]

Openings: Moniker Art Fair / The Other Art Fair (London)

Moniker Art Fair, one of the events on the week’s busy schedule in London, opened with a private view on the 17th of October. Sharing a venue with Other Art Fair, these two events attracted a huge mass of art collectors, enthusiast, gallery owners and artists. In a relaxed atmosphere, the crowd was able to enjoy some works from the street and urban art movement. Presenting both young and emerging artists, alongside some established and names, these two fairs were a great opportunity for young […]

Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. The work was hung on the walls in grids of 24 cards, each echoing the aspect ratio of the individual works themselves as each work was 6×4 inches. The variance of work encompassed photography […]

Previews: “Wider than a postcard” @ Breeze Block Gallery

On the back of his Space//Form group exhibition last year (covered), Arrested Motion’s Sven Davis is working with Breeze Block Gallery in Portland again on another huge group event entitled Wider than a postcard. With over 200 artists and 400 individual works, this exhibition looks to be both bigger than the previous event and also smaller at the same time as all of the artworks are postcard sized at 6×4 inches. Each artist is either making work on a found / owned postcard and adapting / adding […]

Streets: London Instagram Roundup

After having a break from London, AM was very happy to return to a lot of fresh pieces. Phlegm has been painting the walls of The Foundry with his impressive comic book characters, Kid Acne has put up one of his excellent paste-ups which is especially nice, and it was also great to see that Mobstr had been out and about again with one of his thought provoking stencil messages. Also a great wall by artist David Shillinglaw who currently has a show at East […]

Studio Visits: David Shillinglaw

Studio visits are probably the most enjoyable things that we get to do here at AM. A little time to talk with the artist about their work, and also a chance to soak up the environment in which the work is created. David Shillinglaw’s environment is a pretty special one. His North London home and studio is situated at the top of an old brick-built warehouse / factory building and the huge loft offers more work and play space than any of the studios than […]

Discuss David Shillinglaw here.
