Opening alongside “Meticulous Engagements” at the Shooting Gallery was White Walls’ “New Directions” a group show consisting of five talents that the gallery has been building this past year. Featuring Mark Warren Jacques (pictured above), Henry Gunderson (interviewed), Akira Beard, Robert Burden, and Cheryl Molnar. New Directions is a look at several distinctly different and unique styles each exploring their own directions.
Portland artist Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed) will be returning to San Francisco soon and has released a video in conjunction with his visit. Entitled “Mind Visit”, the short film is an exploratory journey into both the mind and studio of the young artist as he diligently prepares for his part in the upcoming group show “New Territory” debuting next weekend at White Walls. Equally haunting and enlightening, “Mind Visit” is less of a welcoming insight than it is a seemingly drug induced and slightly voyeuristic peek past both ego and id as the viewer descends into the depths of Warren’s unconscious. With hints at a screenprinted edition as well as a look at some of Jacques’ signature hyper-detailed and geometric works, the video provides an intriguing preview of what to expect. “New Territory” opens April 3rd and features Henry Gunderson (interviewed), Akira, Cheryl Molnar, Robert Burden and Mark Warren Jacques.
In addition to Travis Louie’s (interviewed) opening at Shooting Gallery last weekend (covered), the Winter Group Show debuted alongside in the adjoining White Walls gallery. Featuring some heavy hitters such as Shepard Fairey (featured), the Clayton Brothers (featured), and Anthony Lister (interviewed) the group show also boasts some upcoming and very exciting talent, namely artists like Nas Champas, Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed and pictured above), Aaron Nagel, and Casey Gray. The Winter Group show will be open, along with Travis Louie’s show, till January 2nd.
White Walls SF is gearing up for a big group show which features Kill Pixie, Greg Gossel (interviewed), Katy Horan, Ernesto Yerena, Timothy Karpinski, Mark Warren Jacques (interviewed), Erik Foss, Henry Gunderson (interviewed), Mike Shine, Phillip Lumbang, and more. Here’s a little sneak peak at some new works from Shepard Fairey (featured), Clayton Brothers (featured) and Anthony Lister(interviewed) that will be at this show. It opens this Saturday, December 12th for all you folks in the San Francisco area.
This past weekend AM visited the Fecal Face Dot Gallery for the opening of “White Hole”, the debut show for SF artist Henry Gunderson. For those of you unfamiliar, Henry has shown at some of San Francisco’s most prestigious contemporary galleries, and has been recently featured on a number of excellent design websites such as Booooooom, Change the Thought, Design\Milk and The World’s Best Ever. Not bad for any artist, let alone one who’s only 19. We caught up with Henry at the gallery - full interview and recap after the jump.
