Showing through this weekend, Transcendental Idealism is James Jarvis’ (interviewed) latest show with NANZUKA in Tokyo. Held partly at 3110NZ by LDH Kitchen in Aobadai Nakameguro, the exhibition will also include a concurrent presentation of the artist’s works at the gallery’s Shibuya space. Opening last week, Throw-ups at NANZUKA in Tokyo marks James Jarvis’ (interviewed) first solo showing in Japan in the last four years. The exhibition continues the British artist’s laser-cut wooden relief works that were last seen earlier this year in Paris (covered), but also features a wide range of techniques including new spray paintings, colored acrylic panels, a bronze sculptural work, and of course drawings. Showing through last weekend, Ceci n’est pas un dessin, c’est une situation at Galerie Julien Cadet in Paris featured the instantly recognizable work of James Jarvis (interviewed). For an artist where drawing plays such a big role in his practice, the exhibition presented a further evolution of his work where his drawings were featured as the object – in flat sculptural form. Basel Week HK’18 / Openings: James Jarvis – “The Waste Man” @ Aishonanzuka Gallery

On display through April 28th in Hong Kong at Aishonanzuka Gallery, The Waste Man is the latest exhibition from James Jarvis (interviewed). Known for his commercial work as a designer as well as a fine artist, his comics-style imagery (often humorous) is influenced by “philosophy, alternate realities, minimalism and skateboarding.” The show mainly consists of drawings of his signature character, something the British works on quite frequently, as well as a few larger gestural pieces on canvas. Releases: James Jarvis x Case Studyo – “AMPHORA” Vase

Case Studyo recently added a new product to their rapidly expanding line of artist collaborations with something they worked on with James Jarvis (interviewed). AMPHORA is a limited edition (run of 100) vase that features one of the British artist’s recognizable cartoon characters that is a play on the title of the piece (derived from the Greek “ampiphoreus” meaning “bearer”). Tonight, at The Standard Shop, NYC, acclaimed British illustrator James Jarvis will unveil his first new narrative in five years, De Profundis, with a public signing event from 6-8pm. Accompanying the book’s release, The Standard Shop has organized an exhibition of Jarvis’ work – including original works for sale – complete with an original site-specific piece on the Shop’s windows from November 10th through December 8th.

We last caught up with James Jarvis (interviewed) when he created a sweet animated short for Nike. The video was all the more poignant as James has been an avid runner himself. Well, perhaps he loves his Coke as as well as it looks like he has considered to expand his illustrative portfolio with this collaboration for the popular soft drink’s 125 year anniversary.
