Tomorrow night (April 28th) in Melbourne, the No Vacancy Gallery (The Atrium, Federation Square location) will be hosting a solo show from Jasper Wong (interviewed). The multi-talented painter, illustrator, and curator will be presenting a selection of work utilizing his signature mix of humor and asian-influenced pop culture entitled A Corny Concerto. In a couple weeks, the AM crew will be heading over Hawaii to this year’s POW WOW. Curated by Jasper Wong and hosted by Loft In Space / Fresh Cafe in Oahu, the art retreat will feature a extensive lineup of artists painting the surrounding industrial district of Kaka’ako. Along with beautifying the streets, the event will culminate with opening on February 18th featuring original artwork from the participants. Loft In Space, the site of this year’s (covered) and next year’s POW WOW, was recently converted into a giant coloring book by gallery director Jasper Wong. The weeks of setup for the POW WOW ’11 in Honolulu culminated in blowout showcase bringing together talent from different parts of the world. People all over Hawaii came to take part in the celebration where performance, photography, graffiti, and fine art intersected. It’s been a crazy few days since we landed in sunny Hawaii where the crew has been in the thick of getting ready for the big POW WOW ’11. We worked alongside our friends at Hypebeast, Booooooom and the rest of the sponsors to stretch canvases and build modular installation platforms in anticipation for Saturday night’s opening. Coming up in February, after it’s debut in Hong Kong last year, the second annual POW WOW will make it’s appearance in Hawaii.
