Streets: Jasper Wong x Kelly Towles (Washington DC)

Last week, Washington DC added another mural to their public space through the efforts of Jasper Wong and Kelly Towles. Painted on the side of an abandoned CIA building for the Art Yards event, the six-story high piece features a surreal image of a dinosaur and bandit playing cat’s cradle, a child’s string-based game. POW WOW ’13: Kickstarter Project

Openings: “Wild At Heart” @ Thinkspace

A couple Saturdays ago, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City hosted the opening for Wild at Heart, a benefit show where some of the proceeds went towards Born Free USA. The group exhibition featured artists and their choice of endangered species to paint or work with leading to some great pieces being created. Tomorrow night (April 28th) in Melbourne, the No Vacancy Gallery (The Atrium, Federation Square location) will be hosting a solo show from Jasper Wong (interviewed). Teaser: POW WOW 2012 (Hawaii)

In a couple weeks, the AM crew will be heading over Hawaii to this year’s POW WOW. Curated by Jasper Wong and hosted by Loft In Space / Fresh Cafe in Oahu, the art retreat will feature a extensive lineup of artists painting the surrounding industrial district of Kaka’ako. Loft In Space, the site of this year’s (covered) and next year’s POW WOW, was recently converted into a giant coloring book by gallery director Jasper Wong. The very busy and versatile designer, artist, illustrator, and curator is also one of the co-owners of Above Second Gallery in Hong Kong, site of an Arrested Motion group show at the end of next month.
