An impressive group of artists got together over the weekend at the behest of Martin Wittfooth’s (interviewed). Last Saturday, the long time running publication BLAB! completed its makeover with their reoccurring show at Copro Gallery – this time as BLABWORLD. The renamed anthology of comics, illustration, and graphic design from Monte Beauchamp focused on thematic works based on “scenes from THE HEREAFTER” and a nice slate of artists obliged with their unique interpretations. Brooklyn based artist Jean-Pierre Roy paints classically inspired landscapes fast-forwarded into a post-apocalyptical dystopian vision of the future. His beautifully composed oils have an epic, and almost cinematic quality. Take a look at the video above where JP talks about his work, and how he achieves the level of luminance to his work by starting off with a dark canvas and continually building the composition by adding elements of light. Another great group show is opening this weekend at the Copro Gallery. For the sixth time, the Los Angeles space will host a show featuring artists from BLAB!, the annual anthology of comics, illustration, and graphic design from Monte Beauchamp. This time, the book will be reformatted with the new official title being BLABWORLD (scenes from THE HEREAFTER). The first stop of the Culver City Artwalk for AM was the group show at LeBasse Projects. Along with a strong lineup of gallery regulars, artists new to us such as Jean-Pierre Roy were featured during this annual event.
