Tonight (March 1) in New Jersey at Juxtapoz Projects / Mana Contemporary, a group show presented in association with Spoke Art will be opening featuring over 40 artists. Openings: “Wider than a postcard” & olive47 – “bonita bonita” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Breeze Block Gallery opened their huge group show Wider than a postcard (previewed) alongside the first solo show in their new gallery 2 space – olive47’s bonita bonita (featured) a couple of weeks back to a packed Portland crowd. Over 400 individual works went into the postcard show with 200 artists providing postcard sized works. Openings: Jessica Hess – “Fade and Finish” @ Spoke Art

Last Friday evening, Spoke Art hosted Jessica Hess’s latest exhibition, Fade and Finish. With this body of work, she explored using gouache on paper (as opposed to predominately oil on canvas paintings in previous exhibitions) and depicted urban landscapes in both daylight and moonlight. In this show, she also explored realistically depicting texture that is inspired by wheat pastes in New York, as well as pinup images that grew out of her love of vintage radio and movies. artMRKT is one of the art fairs taking place in San Francisco over the weekend, with over 70 modern and contemporary galleries at the Concourse Exhibition Center. Openings: Jessica Hess – “It Finds You” @ White Walls SF

Last Saturday, San Francisco-based realist painter, Jessica Hess opened her first solo White Walls exhibition entitled, It Finds You. Hess typically likes to take traditional landscape painting and concentrate on areas of decay, abandonment and graffiti. In addition to her works of oil on canvas, the show also includes photographs, smaller works of gouache on paper, as well as and an installation of work done on old spray cans which are used to contrast and compliment her paintings.
