Basel Week Miami ’18 / Previews: Juxtapoz Clubhouse

Art Basel Week Miami is just around the corner, and once again Juxtapoz Magazine is coming to Miami with another edition of their Juxtapoz Clubhouse concept, this time taking over a whole section in downtown Miami. Running sort of an art fair of their own, or an art district if you wish, this year’s event was again organized in collaboration with Mana Contemporary, and will include seven curated storefronts, multiple art installations, as well as a full Mexico City group show and pop-up installation show. Celebrating the impressive […]

Showing: “What In the World: The Juxtapoz Edition” @ Urban Nation

Urban Nation in Berlin recently teamed up with Juxtapoz Magazine, and its editor Evan Pricco, to curate their latest edition of PM/events. What In the World: The Juxtapoz Edition is the title of the group show that opened on May 19th, further introducing the wide range of urban art that this upcoming museum will be showing and supporting. The idea of this vibrant exhibition was to present the non-existence of boundaries in this lively art movement, through work by mostly Europe-based artists. Not defined as graffiti, […]

Openings: “Juxtapoz x Superflat” @ Vancouver Art Gallery

Three months since its debut at the Seattle Art Fair (covered), the Juxtapoz x Superflat group show co-curated by Juxtapoz editor, Evan Pricco and Takashi Murakami opened on the November 5th at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Staying on view until February 5th, the programming included a mixture of talks, lectures, tours, and special guests. The original idea of the showcase was to expand Takashi’s original Superflat theory by including the artists who have been in the pages of the popular arts & culture magazine for the last 22 years. Building on what was on view in Seattle, this showing further […]

Openings: “Art Truancy – Celebrating 20 Years of Juxtapoz Magazine” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

The year was 1994, Pulp Fiction was ruling the box office, The Beastie Boys were blasting Sabotage and a group of artists out in sunny California were brainstorming on how to start a Kustom Kulture magazine, that (unbeknownst to them) would eventually go on to be the most widely distributed and influential art magazine in the world. Famed painter Robert Williams (originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico) was riding a California wave, while collaborator, Fausto Vitello, was ripping with his Thrasher Magazine success, and with some key […]

Preview: Juxtapoz 15th Anniversary Art Auction

Fifteen years is a long time. For a magazine & brand that pioneered coverage of art that nobody else wanted to cover, Juxtapoz has come a long way. Humble websites like ours probably would not be around if not for their efforts to expose our generation to artists who otherwise would not have gotten any publicity. So imagine what a treasure trove of works they will be able to come up with for a 15th Anniversary Auction. We are salivating just thinking about it. The […]
