Preview: “Lush Life” Group Show @ Roq La Rue

Another great group show is opening this Friday, May 8th in Seattle at Roq La Rue gallery.  The show entitled “Lush Life” mixes pieces from some familiar “old-school” artists with some promising new faces.  We preview some of the paintings after the jump, including pieces from Joe Sorren (seen above), Chris Berens, Mia Araujo, Martin Wittfooth, Kukula, Tin and Glenn Barr.

Openings: Hi-Fructose Group Show – “Overdose” @ Copro Gallery

“Overdose” (previewed) opened this past Saturday at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Upon entering the gallery, you will notice several great pieces from “Overdose” on display in the gallery’s front room. The majority of the exhibition’s body of work is displayed in the gallery’s main room. A table was set up over in the smaller wing of the gallery for the Hi-Fructose Collected Edition 1 book signing. Artists Greg “Craola” Simkins, Gary Baseman, Attaboy, photographer Brian McCarty, and Joe Ledbetter were all on hand for [...]

Preview: “Overdose” Hi-Fructose Group Show @ Copro Gallery

After their highly successful group show last year, Hi-Fructose is back again with another exhibition, this time titled “Overdose,” opening April 4th at Copro Gallery.  With a increasingly more respected reputation as one of the best publications in the scene, they been able to assemble a pretty amazing lineup.  Sure to be one of the showstoppers is this huge 50 x 50 inch Chris Berens piece seen above.  See some other preview pics as well as the full lineup after the jump.

Openings: Movers and Shakers @ POV Evolving

“Movers and Shakers” (previewed) opened on Valentine’s Day in Los Angeles’ Chinatown at POV Evolving Gallery and AM dropped by to check it out. Some of the participating artists who also dropped by included Buff Monster, Johnny “KMNDZ” Rodriguez, Mia, and Tessar Lo, among others. Check out photos of the opening after the jump!

Our friend, fellow Baby Tattooville attendee, and collector extraordinaire, Gino Joukar, has send us some preview pics for “Movers & Shakers,” a group show that will be his first as a curator.  The list of artists participating is impressive, no doubt all who have found themselves part of Gino’s vast personal collection at some point.  Artists include Amy Sol (seen above), Ana Bagayan, Anthony Ausgang, Brandi Milne, Brian Despain, Damon Soule, Dave Cooper, David Horvath, Doktor A, Ekundayo, Eric Fortune, Eric Joyner, Eric White, Jeff [...]

Openings: Tin, Kukula, Sas @ Copro Nason

Rounding up AM‘s whirlwind gallery tour of LA last weekend was Copronason’s show of Kukula, Tin, and Sas Christian. The Santa Monica gallery was busy with three appealing artists at its opening this past Saturday. As usual, Sas Christian presented a quality, not quantity body of work. It was great to see her alluring works in person; those eyes are bigger than life! Kukula’s body of work looked even better in person than the images which we previewed last week. If you already had a [...]

Preview: The Drawing Room @ Thinkspace

Just like how the bridesmaids aren’t suppose to be more beautiful than the bride at a wedding, Audrey Kawasaki appears to be making sure she’s not going to be upstaged at at her own drawing show. Curated by Audrey, “The Drawing Room” (teased) opens this Friday, November 7th at Thinkspace Gallery. She’s submitting around a dozen works on both paper and wood including this amazing die-cut piece seen above. To our knowledge, this is the first time she has used this technique. Judging from the [...]

Preview: Kukula @ Copro Nason

The preview images for Kukula’s show “Princess Express” (previously teased) which opens on November 8th at Copronason are now online.  You really get a feeling that her work has matured as you look through her paintings.  Her details, “story-telling,” and composition really look to have taken a step up while maintining some of the edginess from before (bleeding hearts, injured animals, scratch marks, suggestive outfits).  See for yourself after the jump.

Teaser: The Drawing Room @ Thinkspace

Looking forward to this show at Thinkspace on November 7th not only because Audrey Kawasaki is in it, but also because she is curating it. It seems that artist curated group shows (others that come to mind include Luke Chueh and Travis Louie) usually include some very good names from their genre for some obvious reasons. Audrey’s assembled cast is no exception – Stella Im Hultberg, Amy Sol, Kukula, Brandi Milne, Brian Viveros, Catherine Brooks, Mari Inukai, Nomi Chi, Lauren Albert, Jessica McCourt, Julia Sonmi [...]

Teaser: Kukula @ Copronason

Judging from an early look at Kukula’s body of work for her upcoming show at Copronason, perhaps we will be seeing more of the softer side from her (which we first noticed in her works for her last solo at Thinkspace). Gone are the carved out organs, gimp suits, and tortured stuffed animals… Sounds like her work was quite morbid in the past…maybe it was, but if you have ever seen it in person, you would agree that no matter the subject material, she has [...]
