Conor Harrington Studio Visit Dead Meat AM 10

Studio Visits: Conor Harrington – “Dead Meat” @ Lazarides

For those who couldn’t make the trip for Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) exhibition Dead Meat opening tonight at London’s Lazarides (Rathbone Place), AM brings you an insider’s look into the artist’s compound as he was preparing for the show earlier last month. For this body of work, fans will see a conscious focus on the part of Mr. Harrington on his painterly talents. Also, as seen in these photos, Conor is a creature of minute details. His space is covered with photographic and still life references which are [...]

Openings: Faile – “Fragments of Faile” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Last week, AM stopped by the Lazarides (Rathbone Place) gallery space in London as the Faile Collective (featured) unveiled a new body of work. Fragments of Faile included some strong new mixed block pieces that fans of the Patricks have been accustomed to, but what they had been keeping under wraps until shortly before the opening was a new direction in their creative output. The main floor housed novel portraiture work from the Brooklyn-based duo that featured a more painterly technique fused with textile patterns [...]

Previews: Faile – “Fragments of Faile” @ Lazarides (Rathbone)

Today, Faile’s (featured) latest exhibition Fragments of Faile will be revealed at London’s Lazarides Rathbone gallery space. As mentioned in our teaser, the details to this show was kept close to the vest as all the Brooklyn duo wanted revealed was that there was a new direction for this body of works. Now that the opening is imminent, the collective sent us some preview pics to share with our readers. From what we see, it looks like the Patricks have gone back a little to their painterly roots and created a [...]

Teaser: Faile – Fragments of Faile @ Lazarides (Rathbone)

As you know, Faile (featured) has been hard at work creating the mural for the iconic Houston & Bowery wall in New York. But, what we left out for the past year was the fact that they were secretly in their lab putting together a new show together for their fans in London. Details are tight as they’ve decided to keep this show a surprise but from what we know, the collective will be taking it to a whole new level when the new work is [...]

Preview: Antony Micallef – “Happy, Deep Inside My Heart” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

As mentioned in our earlier teaser, Antony Micallef’s (interviewed) long awaited UK solo at Lazarides’ Rathbone Place is upon us with the public opening scheduled for tomorrow, September 8th. The show Happy, Deep Inside My Heart comprises of fresh works created by the the UK-based artist’s signature strokes and smudges. His use of vibrant colors or lack thereof along with the differing subjects and mediums in this series are an attempt to draw the audience into an interwoven social commentary along with a self examination [...]

Openings: Ron English – ‘Skin Deep’ @ Lazarides Gallery

It’s been a little while since 2009’s Lazarus Rising at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms, the last UK solo exhibition by Ron English. Two years and a gallery switch later, the pop surrealist, street artist and culture jammer is back — in the streets as well as indoors with Skin Deep: Post-Instinctual Afterthoughts On Psychological Portraiture, his new solo effort (previewed) at Lazarides Gallery in London. English confirmed to AM that the show’s 16 canvases (on display with a couple of sculptures) have been 12 months [...]

Showing / Viewpoints: Sage Vaughn – ‘Children of a Lesser God’ @ Lazarides Gallery

The first UK solo show by LA-based Sage Vaughn (referred to in early May) opened a few weeks back at Lazarides Gallery in London with a title ostensibly borrowed from the 1980 play by Mark Medoff or its subsequent film adaptation. While Children of a Lesser God presents no radical thematic or stylistic departures for Vaughn, the exhibition is a strong one — especially the part in the gallery’s main space on the ground floor, where canvases from the artist’s Wildlife series have been hung [...]
Vaughn with Richard Duardo of Modern Multiples

Studio Visit: Sage Vaughn

Children of a Lesser God, the first UK solo show by Los Angeles-based artist Sage Vaughn opens today at Lazarides Gallery in London. AM visited the artist’s studio last year as he prepared for both this exhibition and the release of hand-painted multiples — the latter screenprinted by Modern Multiples and painted with watercolours. Vaughn’s sunlit space seemed like the ideal environment for working. There was also an additional and immediate source of inspiration right outside his studio: a bird-feeding area that apparently attracts sparrows, [...]
