Continuing AM’s tour of Hong Kong, we made a stop at the Art Hong Kong International Art Fair. This vanguard Asian fair brings together top notch exhibitors from over 110 galleries. Much like our visits toÂ Basel Miami and Armory NYC, in Hong Kong we experienced and saw work from some of theÂ best talents in the art world. Jeff Soto (interviewed) opened his UK solo show to a packed house at StolenSpace yesterday. Whoever coined the phrase “beauty is in the details” certainly knew what they were talking about. The two bodies of work currently being shown at Thinkspace Gallery, “A Brief History” by Allison Sommers (interviewed) and Joao Ruas’ “Inner Myth” certainly live up to this age-old saying. A little while back, we gave you a glimpse of a laser cut brooch that was to be released from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed).Â Well, it appears that some were sold at her Space Yui show in Japan and one, much to Audrey’s displeasure, has even made its way onto eBay. AM stopped by for an early look at the new limited edition Jeff Soto will be releasing named “Inland Empire” – a 5 color hand-pulled screen print.Â Soto’s similarily named show “Inland Empire” (teased) is set to open this weekend at StolenSpace. Hailing from the land down under, Melissa Haslam (interviewed) made her first trip to Los Angeles for her show â€œWild Fieldsâ€ (previewed) which opened this past weekend at LeBasse Projects. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Haslam presents her viewers with what she understands best: striking female characters against the backdrop of local Aussie flora and fauna mixed with just the right splash of color. Good idea and great execution. That’s the impression we walked away with at Mark Brown’s debut solo show at Gallery 1988 (LA). The beautiful paintings in “The Lost MacGuffin” are actually linked in a cohesive and fluid storyline. Starting off from one end of the gallery to the other, the audience will see the story unfolding in each painting.
