Previews: “Invisible College” @ Fort Wayne Museum of Art

This weekend, a show co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will open at the museum. Entitled Invisible College, the group exhibition refers to the fact that many of the participants have found success outside of the traditional art educational model. Moniker Art Fair, one of the events on the week’s busy schedule in London, opened with a private view on the 17th of October. The inaugural edition of STRARTA fair was opened this weekend at Saatchi Gallery, at the very beginning of London art week. We’ve been long time followers of Matt Small here at AM, so we read news of a new two person show in London with anticipation. Showing: Matt Small – “Seen and Heard” @ Blackall Studios

Last week, UK-based painter Matt Small (interviewed) opened a new solo show at  Lackall Studios in London with a new body of work derived from his experiences while working on a youth empowerment project. Entitled Seen and Heard, the exhibition consisted of a series of portraits rendered in Small’s characteristic swirl of colors and attempts to bring a positive light to a subgroup of society that is often viewed negatively. Teaser: Matt Small – “Seen and Heard” @ Blackall Studios

On August 10th, a new series of works from Matt Small (interviewed) will be on display at Blackall Studios in London. Presented by Moniker Projects, the paintings are collectively entitled Seen and Heard, also the name of the youth empowerment project the UK-based artist has been working on. Last weekend, MK2 Projects, the special exhibition space of Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles, hosted a group showing from Shepard Fairey, Deedee Cheriel, Mercedes Helnwein, Mark Whalen / Kill Pixie, Mel Kadel, Travis Millard, Matt Small, Samuel Lowder (FrePrs), Lezley Saar, Aiko Nakagawa, Todd Carpenter and Steven R.
