Last weekend, the Corey Helford Gallery played host to the opening of the Natalia Fabia (interviewed) curated show Hookers. With the theme in mind, her artist friends including Kent Williams, Michael Hussar, Phil Hale, Erik Sandberg, Saber, REVOK, and more created pieces for the show that showed a diversity of mediums and range of artistic vision. The long awaited first book from provocative oil painter Michael Hussar entitled White: A Decade is finally ready for release. The edition is published by Baby Tattoo Books, the same people behind the annual artist – fan retreat Baby Tattooville where Hussar has hosted the late night festivities dubbed Wunderland. After hosting the first part of their 25th anniversary group show last month, La Luz De Jesus makes room for the opening of round two of the festivities on November 4th. For the third straight year (see 2010), one of the featured artists, Michael Hussar, hosted the strictly adult-oriented portion of Baby Tattooville – Wunderland. As before, all of the action took place in Hussar’s suite where in the main room, models posed on a large bed as muses for Hussar & other artist’s drawings and for impromptu photo sessions (see above with Ron English). As blissful and adventurous as the confines of the Mission Inn (where everything usually goes down) are, sometimes it is good to leave and take a field trip during Baby Tattooville. Michael Hussar returned for Baby Tattooville 2010 and once again graciously hosted one of the key events of the special weekend. Each night, Hussar’s suite became the site for non-stop late night festivities. BT attendees joined in on sketching the models in one room, while artists such as Ron English, Johnny “KMNDZ” Rodriguez, Van Arno and Robert Williams could be seen participating in photoshoots with the models, sketching under Sketch Theatre and just flat out partying. Aptly referred to as a “deal with the devil”, our friends at Baby Tattoo have tipped us off to a new miniprint from Michael Hussar. Priced only at $10, this 4″ x 6″ print entitled “White Devil”, is a promotional print for his forthcoming book White. Also look for Hussar in the fast approaching Baby Tattooville this year.
