Upcoming: Mobstr – “Sex, Drugs & Painting Canvases” @ The Old Truman Brewery

On May 15th, Mobstr will be opening a show (RSVP needed, details below) at The Old Truman Brewery entitled Sex, Drugs & Painting Walls Canvases. Known for his witty text based works in the streets, the UK-based artist will be transferring his aesthetic from walls to canvases. Rounding out the exhibition, which will run for less than a week, will be a series of installations. Discuss Mobstr here.

Rewind: Aug 12 – Aug 18

This week’s Rewind feature is headlined by the trailer for a new film coming out later this year called The Monuments Men. The movie stars George Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, and others as a group of museum directors, curators, and historians going behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany to rescue artworks. Streets: Nuart Festival 2012

At the end of last month, Norway saw another edition of the annual Nuart Festival roll around. And as usual, another stellar lineup of artists stopped by to work on public art projects for local and traveling street art fans to enjoy. Participants Aakash Nihalani, Dolk, Eine, How & Nosm, Jordan Seiler, Mobstr (above), Ron English, Niels Shoe Muelman, Saber, Sickboy, The Wa also found time to create some indoor installations and murals for an associated group showing. Leading off our summary of last week’s notable public art is this mural from Philippe Hérard (photo by morac19, via Juxtapoz). Utilizing a mixture of paint and newspapers, Hérard is able to create a whimsical piece for the streets of Paris. It looks like the ever witty Mobstr has been busy in and around London recently putting up some new pieces. The street artist hailing from Newcastle is known for verbiage-based pieces that poke fun at his art form as well as challenge the way we view public space. AM was pleased to see a visit this week from NY based artist Olek (featured), we don’t often get to see a crocheted cab on the streets of London! Great fun and very impressive. So, it was good news to hear that January next year Olek will be crocheting the entire gallery space of Tony’s Gallery and live there.  Sounds like a show not to be missed.
