As we mentioned a couple months ago, Takashi Murakami will be unveiling his first solo exhibition in Japan in over 14 years on October 31st. Friend and collaborator Pharrell Williams recently paid a visit to the Japanese artist in his studio as he was prepping for the show at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo entitled The 500 Arhats. As you will see in the footage below, the highlight of the show will definitely be the massive 100 meter long painting. Discuss Takashi Murakami here.

With the opening of his Los Angeles exhibition scheduled in less than three weeks, KAWS will give the public another high profile look at his imagery with the launch of Pharrell’s fragrance “G I R L” this week. Just this passed September 11th, New York-based artist Daniel Arsham and music producer Pharrell Williams unveiled their first collaborative endeavor at The Standard East Village Hotel in New York City. The result of their joint venture materialized as four re-creations of a Casino MT-500 keyboard, which is the first instrument on which Pharrell ever created music on. Like previous work that Arsham has done, the sculptures (made from different materials which included crystal, volcanic ash, and steel) are created to look like found artifacts that […]
This week’s Rewind summary article of videos features a wide range of subjects. Leading things off is some behind-the-scenes footage of body artist Emma Hack’s depiction of a car crash with the help of painted human bodies (via Juxtapoz). The project was commissioned by the Motor Accident Commission road safety campaign in Australia and involved 17 people. Other worthy videos include: Wheatpaste.Doc – a Brazilian documentary about wheat paste. Pharrell Williams Interviews David Salle & KAWS. An interview with Sarah Joncas about her show at Last Rites Gallery. […]
Todd Selby certainly has been invited to visit many of the artists that we admire in the past (ie: Robert Longo & Mr.). This time, he visits Pharrell, who just performed at Art Basel Miami (covered) in his Miami home where his collection of KAWS paintings and sculptural pieces apparently play a prominent role in his interior decorating aside from a Keith Haring piece. The series of commission pieces based on Family Guy as well as rare edition figures certainly has AM jealous – oh, […]
Running at full steam right now down in South Beach, Art Basel Week is filled with many good things. This was most definitely one of them. Set upon the backdrop of Friends With You’s psychedelic outdoor installation, Rainbow City (previewed), Pharrell came to the conclusion the inflatable garden was the perfect location for a set of his hip-hop infused pop anthems. A brilliant idea, indeed, for the ubiquitous recording artist who has befriended countless contemporary artists and recently called upon the colorful Miami based art […]
