Releases: Saber – “LA River” Print

With the release of the LA River print from SABER (interviewed), fans have a chance to own a part of graffiti history. The LA writer was recently on the TV show To Tell The Truth, which put a spotlight on the Los Angeles River piece he painted in 1997 (hailed as the world’s largest graffiti piece at the time). The large format edition of 100 is sized at 24 x 35 inches with an embellished signature and can be purchased here. Discuss Saber here.

POW! WOW! Long Beach ’18 / Previews: “Vitality and Verve III” @ LBMA

Tomorrow (June 30th), Vitality and Verve III will open to the public (private gala tonight) at the Long Beach Museum of Art, presented in curatorial collaboration with Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Projects and the support of POW! WOW! Long Beach. The third iteration of the group exhibition highlighting artists from the “New Contemporary Art Movement” features an excellent roster including Sergio Garcia and Saber who collaborated on a cool installation featuring Garcia’s sculpture of Saber’s hand in mid spray with the graffiti artist providing his tag. Releases: SABER x 1849 Wine – “Iris” Bottle

Following up on his sold out Au Jus, Triumph, and Anonymous collaborations with the 1849 Wine, SABER (interviewed) recently released another bottle he designed for the wine company. Iris is of a 2013 vintage, a pinot noir “rich with dark cherry aromas accented with notes of violets and spice, supported by toast and the faint smoke from the barrel.” The label features imagery taken from the graffiti artist’s Tool of Dissent painting, a burst of colors created in his distinctive urban calligraphy. Streets / Recap: POW! WOW! Worcester

A couple weeks ago, POW! WOW! Worcester welcomed in artists from 8 different countries as well as locally from Massachusetts. In association with the event, there were gallery shows and other activities, but the main draw was the live painting (like in other POW! WOW! events around the world). Releases: Saber – “Refulgent” Color Studies On Paper

Inspired by some recent paintings (example above) he has been working on called the “Refulgent” series, SABER (interviewed) has recently released some color studies on paper (seen below) for purchase on his website. These pieces on textured water color paper were created using spraypaint, acrylic, charcoal pencil, and oil stick and help loosen the Los Angeles-based graffiti artist up before he tackles the larger paintings like the one seen above. Openings: “Major Work” @ Chandran Gallery

Earlier this month, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco opened a show curated by Andrew Schoultz entitled Major Work. The locally-based artist carefully selected a roster of participants that included himself, Alicia McCarthy, Aaron Noble, Kelsey Brookes, Revok, James Marshall (Dalek), Sam Friedman, Eric Yahnker, Mark Dean Veca, Saber, Hilary Pecis, Tim Biskup, Eric White, and Allison Schulnik. Rewind: Oct 26 – Nov 22

Leading off this latest Rewind feature is a 30 minute documentary on Banksy’s recent Dismaland project (covered). One of the hosts in the video is none other than one of our photographers and writers – Butterfly. Streets / Releases: Saber x Zes (Los Angeles) & Originals

Like they did in 2014 (covered), the AWR/MSK affiliated SABER (interviewed) and ZES recently collaborated on another impressive mural in Los Angeles, this time at the American Tea Room building. The piece in Downtown was made possible with special thanks to Montana Colors USA, The Seventh Letter, as well as Branded Arts and is another example of the locally-based writers’ synergistic artistic energy.
