Streets: Shepard Fairey – La Brea Mural (Completed)

Last week, AM stopped by for a visit with Shepard Fairey (featured) and the OBEY crew as they started work on the La Brea mural. The huge wall that wrapped around the former Continental Graphic’s building was created in association with the District La Brea group show (covered) at MK2 Projects. ABOVE (interviewed), whose giveaway on AM of his new PASSPORT book we just announced yesterday, is currently in Miami preparing for his upcoming show with White Walls at the SCOPE fair next month. Update: Swoon (London & New Orleans)

It looks like Swoon (interviewed) is in London at the moment judging from this piece seen on the streets by the good people at Hooked Blog. The wheatpasted image is modeled after the stunning Thalassa installation she created for the New Orleans Museum of Art back in June and is a marker for her upcoming show at Black Rat Projects next month. Streets: Herakut (Los Angeles)

During the past week, the duo known as Herakut were in Los Angeles as part of Wende Museum’s Behind The Wall project (covered). However, the artist collective also took time to do a large scale mural which featured their signature style and character design. The wall, which took two days to complete, sits not too far from the city’s Chinatown area and it continues to show the technique that the artists have perfected during their time together. Streets: Banksy – Robbo Tribute

Banksy is back to the London streets, with a tribute to King Robbo, at the exact same spot that started the controversy (covered here) two years ago. In a sign of making peace, Mr. B drew the outline like King Robbo did back in 1985 in the original and added a “spray can” candle, as a well wisher to Robbo, currently in induced coma. As Veterans Day in the US and Armistice Day in the UK draw to a close, here is a reminder of the cost these brave soldiers pay from street miniaturist Slinkachu. The AM crew did a night time driveby past the new RETNA (featured) wall in Beverly Hills recently. The mural on the side of Gallery Brown isn’t the MSK AWR street calligrapher’s first time putting in work in the area if you remember, as he also put his brush on the walls of the Chanel flagship store in the city recently. As we mentioned earlier today, the MK2 Projects District La Brea group show will be opening tomorrow night. In association with the show, a mural will be created by Shepard Fairey (featured) on the former Continental Graphic’s building. This Sunday afternoon, November 13th, the Wende Museum presents Behind the Berlin Wall, a private reception ($50 to benefit the museum, call 310.216.1600 ext. 305 for those interested) featuring the unveiling of murals from Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) on a remnant of the Berlin Wall, the longest stretch in the world outside of Germany. While it looks like street muralist Phlegm has had time to work on some drawings for his new book in his home city of Sheffield, he still has found time to leave the UK to work on some walls. This latest piece, put together by Wall Arts Basel, is in Basel, Switzerland and features some of his signature characters involved in some kind of struggle. More detailed pics after the jump…
