Tonight up north, while fellow Mission School alumn Barry McGee opens his midcareer survey across the bay, Andrew Schoultz will be at Park Life with a new show. Featuring paintings, editioned works, as well as a book signing, fans of the artist’s kinetic and enigmatic work would do well to head over to the event (7 – 10 PM). As mentioned here earlier, Luke Chueh (interviewed) is having a series of autograph and sketching sessions celebrating the release of his new book – Bearing the Unbearable. Last weekend, we dropped by Gallery 1988 (Melrose) for the first and largest of these signings which also included a series of sketches on display from the LA-based artist. Tomorrow, June 9th (from 1-4 PM), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be at the Gallery 1988 (Melrose location) signing his new book Bearing The Unbearable. Covering work from 2003-2009, the monograph is the first major publication from the LA-based artist known for his dark and humorous imagery featuring his cartoon-like characters including his infamous bear. Signings: James Jean – “Rebus” @ Nucleus Gallery

Continuing his whirlwind books signing tour, James Jean (featured) will be at the Nucleus Gallery this Saturday, January 14th (6-9pm) in Southern California. Spots he has already hit up that we had the chance to attend include Reed Space in NYC and the LACMA, where we walked away impressed with the beautiful reproduction of his paintings from the Rebus show at Martha Otero’s in the 240 page publication. After sitting in with James Jean (featured) and catching his motivational talk to students at Pratt, we attended the signing for his newly released Rebus book at Reed Space. As expected, the place was packed with fans eager to get some time with the artist. As previewed, the event also launched his latest Lotus War Pyramid print. Admirably, James left no man behind as he stayed past closing to make sure his fans all got his John Hancock and doodle. Check it out after the jump.

James Jean (featured) is in New York right now and will be making a special stop at Jeff Staple’s Reed Space to conduct a rare signing for his newly released Rebus Book tomorrow, October 23rd (5 – 7 pm). As seen at his recent signing at the LACMA, fans will be able to catch the talented artist’s work up close and get an opportunity to grab a signature.
