Spaces: The KAWS Studio

Followers of KAWS and his pop culture infused abstractions have always been impressed with his clean lifework and impeccable attention to detail. Taking a look at his Brooklyn studio, designed by Wonderwall in 2013, one can see similarities in the street turned contemporary artist’s taste in architecture. The light-infused and wide open work space will definitely come in handy as he prepares for his show in Los Angeles, coming up in a couple months. Via Hypebeast. Discuss KAWS here.

On the 26th of June, Lazarides Rathbone held a private opening for the solo show of Icelandic conceptual and abstract painter, Katrin Fridriks. A month ago, AM stopped by the Brooklyn studio space of Faile to catch a glimpse of their upcoming show at Gallery Ernst Hilger which opens tomorrow, July 2nd in Austria. Streets / World Tour: Jeff Soto (Bordeaux, France)

Southern California native, Jeff Soto (interviewed), recently traveled to Bordeaux, France where he had a chance to work on several art-related projects. First up is this wall he painted for the Darwin project and Spacejunk, his fourth mural in France (also see Lyon here & here). The Riverside-based artist took care to incorporate local graffiti into his mural featuring some old school imagery, expertly painting on the difficult corrugated siding. Yesterday, the long anticipated return of hometown street art heroes happened in Sao Paulo at Galpão Fortes Vilaça when Os Gemeos opened their solo show. For this exhibition entitled A ópera da lua or The Moon Opera, the Brazilian twins created an immersive experience for their fans consisting of over 30 paintings, wall murals, three sculptures, and a 3D video installation. Last weekend, AM stopped by Thinkspace to check out the almost sold-out solo from Jacub Gagnon (interviewed) entitled World’s Collide. Painted against a black background, the surreal portraits of his chosen creatures really pop and seem even more vivid. Full of whimsy and imaginative touches, you can see the Toronto-based artist thought carefully about each element of the pieces, from title to composition. Streets: Banksy (Glastonbury 2014)

This year’s Glastonbury Festival kicked off recently in the UK where attendees were surprised by an appearance by Banksy’s Sirens of the Lambs truck.
