Ernest Zacharevic recently did a month long art residency in Ipoh, Malaysia. During his stay in town, the Lithuanian born artist created several beautiful murals blending his works with old, worn out walls. With the new work, he focused on local people and their way of life, most noticeable in the Never Mine piece. AM recently attended the much anticipated opening for Israel Lund at Lower East Side’s David Lewis Gallery. The eponymously named solo includes both his signature silkscreened canvas paintings along with a new series of sculptures which center around one of his core tools – the silkscreen. Last week, the Known Gallery featured the release party (with support from Hennessy) for a new line from Crooks & Castles designed by Futura. Entitled LEWDS, the collection (which can be seen in more detail here) featured the familiar text and atom motif from the NYC graffiti legend while paying homage to Christopher “Lewds” Natalio, the late Marketing Director of the streetwear brand. Over the weekend, art fans in Los Angeles saw the return of Kazuki Takamatsu and his gradient map textured portaiture in a new show entitled Spiral of Emotions. Exhibiting at CHG Circa (see 2013 at the sister gallery), the Japanese artist brought with him a new set of glowing paintings featuring ghostly silhouettes of children and adolescents, often intermingled with symbols of death and violence. It looks like WK Interact (featured) has hit Europe again. After knocking out a towering mural in Belgium last month, the New York-based French artist returns to his homeland to build a patriotic mural at the La Géode in Paris to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day (Check out a his previous visit to Paris). Openings: Futura – “Introspective” @ Magda Danysz (Paris)

Earlier this week, graffiti legend Futura created new work for a Paris show at Magda Danysz Gallery entitled Introspective. Drawing from many of the series of works that have defined his career, the NYC-based artist presented street influenced abstractions, figurative work featuring his pointman character, and paintings that included his famous atom motif. This Thursday night (June 19th), Arcadia Contemporary in New York will be hosting the opening for Michael Carson’s new exhibition. For his first solo with the gallery, the Phoenix-based painter drew references for his chic women and impeccably dressed men by his observations of people on the streets. Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles recently closed out a show from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) entitled House of Daydreamers. The exhibition highlighted the locally-based artist’s diverse range of works including paintings, installations, and wood sculptures. The title of the show summarizes nicely some of the dreamy imagery that we have come to love from him, along with more literal interpretations.
