After Todd “REAS” James opened his show in Paris last year and New York early this year, he turned his attention to Miami where he went to town on OHWOW’s Bar location. As one of the group artists who will be doing new installs approximately every 2 months, REAS certainly left his mark last month by painting all his classic imagery on all the available wall space. As hoped for by Banksy fanantics who are stateside, the elusive street artist has officially landed. With the his documentary, “Exit Through The Gift Shop” premiering in New York (covered), and set to premiere in LA and SF, it was only a matter of time before Mr. B gifted his followers here with some street work (on La Brea & 4th). On Thursday, AM attended the private screening of Banksy’s much anticipated documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop in New York City. This early preview was hosted at the pimp Tribeca Grand and was made possible by renowned director Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me & Where In The World Is Osama bin Laden?) who graciously hosted the screening. Tonight, a special show is opening up at Subliminal Projects. “Subject / Subject” is a show centered around showcasing some long time favorite and also upcoming female artists in a benefit for the Downtown Women’s Center. Co-curated by Deedee Cheriel, the show features some well known names such as Swoon (interviewed), Liz McGrath (featured), Mel Kadel, Jessica Hess and Jen Stark to name a few. After spending all day scrambling to get your taxes out on time, swing by Brooklyn Brothers Gallery in the BK to celebrate Tax Day with the folks behind TrustoCorp (covered). Openings: Roa @ Pure Evil Gallery

Looks like the first look at Roa’s show comes from gifted street photographer, RomanyWG, as he stopped by to take some photos of the pieces and installations at the Pure Evil Gallery. As with Roa’s show in Paris, his paintings look to be on found items or well constructed objects with moving parts that allow a juxtaposition of multiple layers of overlaying painting surfaces.
