Teaser: Cinders Gallery et al. - “Temple of Booom” @ Okay Mountain

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Our friends Kelie Bowman and Sto of Brooklyn’s Cinders Gallery are right now down in Texas with Kyle Ranson creating something extra special like only they can at Austin’s Okay Mountain. The project, entitled “Temple of Booom,” opens this Friday during the SXSW Festival, and will consist of a site-specific installation that combines paintings, prints, drawings, murals and sculpture by a host of artists, as well as musical performances all weekend. To tell you the truth, we don’t have much idea what it’s going to be like, but knowing this group, it’s definitely going to be a site to behold. So, if you are anywhere near SXSW, make sure to check it out.

More information about “Temple of Booom,” after the jump.

Following up on our Shepard Fairey hits up SXSW coverage, MyLocationScouts posted a nice video of Shepard Fairey and the Obey Giant crew wheatpasting on the side of Home Slice Pizza in Austin. It’s always nice to see Shep’s artistry in action, showing off his composition, layering, and tearing skills.

Mujer Fatale Mural: At Lance Armstrongs Bike Shop

Mujer Fatale Mural: At the bike shop owned by Lance Armstrong

Shepard Fairey did some urban “spring cleaning” in Austin this past weekend in time for the SXSW Festival. Visiting the Lone Star state with buckets of wheat paste and some good old fashion Obey elbow grease, Shepard hit up many prominent spots including Lance Armstrong’s Bike Shop: Mellow Johnny’s, Red 7, Emos, Home Slice, and many more. We have some awesome in-progress pics of gorgeous murals being put up by the man himself.

Shepard Fairey’s 2009 “Hat Trick” list:
January - Washington DC: Inauguration & Manifest Hope (check)
February - Massachusetts for ICA Boston Retrospective (check)
March - “Work” Austin for SXSW and “No Brow” show (check)
