Preview: “Post 9/11″ @ OHWOW (LA)

After kicking things off at their new Los Angeles space earlier this year with Scott Campbell’s Noblesse Oblige (covered), quickly followed up by a unique body of work from David Benjamin Sherry, OHWOW will look to continue making waves with an impressive summer group exhibition. Including such blue chip names as Dan Colen, Terence Koh, Hanna Liden, Nate Lowman, Adam McEwen, Ryan McGinley, Dash Snow, Agathe Snow, and Aaron Young, the Miami-based transplant gallery has brought out some of the big guns to further their [...]

Openings: Exhibition A – “Monochrome Set” @ Ace Hotel

For many of you, Exhibition A is already an organization that you may be familiar with. For the uninitiated, it’s a site that’s dedicated to selling exclusive editioned artwork by some of notable names in contemporary art, but their goal is to do that without breaking your bank. We recently attended the inaugural show for Exhibiton A’s Monochrome Set held at the Ace hotel including works from Terence Koh, Nate Lowman, Hanna Liden, Josephine Meckseper, Olympia Scarry, Peter Sutherland, Oliver Zahm and Leo Fitzpatrick. Check [...]

Openings: “Postermat” @ The Hole Gallery

AM recently attended The Hole Gallery’s latest show Postermat. The group exhibition was a little different than the typical group show because they went all retro with it. Imagine going back to your childhood and rummaging through mall shops for your favorite posters of sports, rockbands, singers or even comic books – almost everyone had a cheap but cool poster that was maybe mass produced, but meant the world to us. In the same spirit, the good folks at the Hole and Levi’s, got together [...]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – The Island

During the week of Art Basel Miami Beach, there are countless fairs to check out, parties to attend, street and public art to peruse, and fashionable people to gaze at. Although the city facilitates much of this with its warm weather in December and abundant day and night venues, it doesn’t make much use of Miami’s natural habitat and scenic wonders.  Many who visit during Art Basel never even get to see a single wave or put on a pair of flip-flops.  Enter The Island. [...]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – KAWS Book Signing @ The Standard Hotel

As we reported earlier in the week, The Standard Miami served as ground zero today for a more intimate, less rushed signing of KAWS’ new book with Rizzoli, where guests were invited to sit down with the artist and share some time. Partnering with OHWOW, the local gallery who seemingly has their hands in everything special going on during Art Basel Week, the swanky pop-up shop was ripe with exclusively published art books, a selection of artwork and custom products only offered for the weekend [...]

Teaser: Basel Week Miami ’10 – The Island

Art collectors who are fans of the show Lost might just have their dream come true with this just revealed art project planned for Art Basel Week in Miami. Aptly dubbed The Island, those lucky enough to attend will be whisked away by motorboat from docks at the Mondrian Hotel to Flagler Memorial Island in Biscayne Bay for a first of it’s kind beachfront exhibition and sculpture park. Organized by Shamim M. Momin of non-profit art organization Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) together with Aaron [...]

Openings: “Misericordia” @ PRISM

As previewed by AM, Prism opened Misericordia last Friday night to a excited and fashionable Los Angeles crowd.  The show featured the excellent curatorial (the show was curated by Birte Kleemann, Director at The Pace Gallery) quality you expect from Prism and included pieces by some of the best artists working today, like Terence Koh, Sterling Ruby, and Chris Burden, alongside some works that were hundreds of years old.  The exploration of Mercy never looked so interesting. More opening images after the jump…

Preview: “Misericordia” @ Prism, Los Angeles

After having produced stand-out shows featuring such artists as Andy Warhol, Os Gemeos, and Nobuyoshi Araki, Prism continues the hot streak with Misericordia. It will feature works from the 15th century to today and include paintings, installations, sculptures, and photographs by such well-known artists as Joseph Beuys, Bill Viola, Sterling Ruby, Terence Koh, Chris Burden, Lucio Fontana, and Marina Abramovic. Art Focus: Dash Snow (1981-2009)

Photo by Craig McDean. Via Interview Magazine. On the night of Monday, July 13, 2009, Dashiell A. Snow tragically passed away at Lafayette House, a hotel in Manhattan. He was only 27 years old and leaves behind a 1-year old daughter named Secret and her mother, his partner Jade Berreau. Snow was one of the most promising young artists to emerge from New York City and was an inspiration and influence to many other artists in the area, many of whom were long-time close friends [...]
