An interesting article came out last week talking about how Banksy’s work from Santa’s Ghetto in Israel had become a tourist attraction. However, some of his work was lost in translation when seen from the eyes of the people living there.

For example, one of his most iconic images “Flower Thrower” is revered because it resembles, according to the locals, the angel statue at a nearby church outside the village of Beit Sahour, in Shepherd’s Field. They insist that Banksy knew about the statue when creating the stencil. It’s amazing that they don’t make that connection that the image represents a Palestinian militant – ironic commentary on violence in the West Bank.
