Preview: Sweet Surrender @ Gallery 1988 SF

We’ve been looking forward to this group show for a while now. Gallery 1988 SF has put together a lineup of 5 young ladies who’s special talent is making us “look” literally. Sweet Surrender features: Camilla d’Errico, Krista Huot, Mia, Allison Torneros, and Jennifer Tong. These talented girls put together what looks to be a great show. AM has an advance peep at this wonderful show that opens March 6th. More after the jump.

Kehinde Wiley will be speaking on April 2nd at the Getty Center (tickets here) about his work and latest World Stage project – Brazil. Recently, it has been his habit to move to different countries and immerse himself with the culture and location while painting a body of work. Wiley will be exhibiting his signature urban African-American subjects posing in traditional art portraits at Roberts & Tilton, opening on April 4. Via Artdaily.

Studio Visits: Todd Schorr

AM had the honor of visiting Todd Schorr in his studio recently to take a first look at his latest body of work for his upcoming show at Merry Karnowsky (teased). The rendered details, composition, and concepts behind each of paintings in this exhibition were perfectly planned and executed. Besides four stunningly beautiful large paintings, there will also be other smaller works, color studies, and drawings in the exhibition as well as a print release. Since his last show in Los Angeles was over five […]

Openings: Transcenders @ Gallery 1988 LA

“Transcenders” opened in Los Angeles at Gallery 1988 last night. The group show features work from Jason D’Aquino, Doktor A, Scott Scheidly, Jason Limon, and Michael Page. All of these artists are from out of town, but luckily, AM was able to meet up with Jason D’Aquino, Michael Page, and Jason Limon at last night’s opening. The growth in their work was a common theme that was brought up and we will let you see for yourselves just how much their work has changed within […]

For more info and to register for this ride, please RSVP to [email protected] After a very eventful East coast swing, Shepard Fairey is back working his home turf of LA, and this time it’s a […]

The first is “Natural Beauties,” a solo show from Lola after her recent successful showing at Corey Helford Gallery. The other group show running concurrently is actually curated by Lola and entitled “Superschool.” Definitely check this out at the opening on March 7th as the long list of great artists include Scott Musgrove, Travis Louie, Gary Baseman, Sas Christian, Chet Zar, Heiko […]

Nara Arrested For Graffiti Before Boesky Opening

Yoshitomo Nara decided to big up his street cred before his Marianne Boesky opening by putting up some graffiti at the Union Square subway station in NY. Unfortunately, since the arrest of Shepard Fairey before his opening at the Boston ICA, throwing prominent artists in jail seems to have become all the rage. Or perhaps the NYPD were big fans of David Choe and this is just payback? Nara spent two days in the downtown jail but was fortunately able to make his opening. His […]

Preview: Tomokazu Matsuyama @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Matzu and Joshua Liner Gallery were nice enough to invite AM for a sneak “peak” at Matzu’s full-gallery solo show, Glancing at the Twin Peaks, opening in NYC this Friday. Matzu and his helpers have been working around the clock to transform the space with paintings, murals and sculptures into one cohesive installation. And although the show was still a work in progress when we were there, from what we saw, it already looks to be a stunner. Check out our exclusive preview pics after […]

Openings: SÃo Paulo @ Scion Installation LA

AM was on hand at the opening of SÃo Paulo at Scion Installation LA this past Saturday. The show was curated by Choque Cultural in association with Jonathan LeVine and features work from some of Brazil’s best: Calma, Carlos Dias, MZK, Ramon Martins, Silvana Mello, Speto, Titi Freak and Zezão. Normally a white-walled gallery space, Scion Installation LA was completely transformed by the artists, each adding their own unique touch of SÃo Paulo’s color, vibrancy, grittiness, and energy with work that had influences of street […]
