Continuing with our coverage of Jonathan LeVine Gallery’s massive kick off of the new art season, AM brings you Mark Dean Veca’s “As Cold As They Come.” This psychedelic body of work continues where his last show “Paintings, Wall Drawings, and Collaborations” left off (covered/interviewed). At the center is “Popeyeconography,” which is a series based on the classic Popeye cartoon. It was great to see Brutus, Olive Oyl, Wimpy and Swee’ Pea redone under Mark’s surreal biomorphic style. He even had time to sneak in a little Underdog and Bart Simpson into his always pop-relevant paintings.

As mentioned in our D*Face opening coverage (here), many of Manhattan’s notables (Kaws, Stash, Eric Haze, and more) appeared in support the two artists on opening night. Make sure to get yourself down to the gallery before the show close October 10th if you want to catch the mind blowing works of both these talented artists. Catch the pics of MDV’s show after the jump.
