Video: Shaquille O’Neal – “Size Does Matter” @ Flag Art Foundation

If you recall, we brought you some photos from the opening of “Size Does Matter” show curated by Shaquille O’Neal at the Flag Art Foundation. Now comes the video from PBS where Shaq was interviewed and talks about his three favorite pieces (Ron Mueck’s “Big Man”, Willard Wigan’s “Micro Shaq”, and some mini-elevators) among other things. He also coined another nickname for himself – “Shaqasso.” Via Curated.

Legendary American photographer, Ansel Adams, currently has some unique work on display at the Prints and Photographs division at the Library of Congress. Best known for his idyllic landscapes photos, he took on a different venture in 1943 when he was asked to document the Manzanar War Relocation Center (AKA: Japanese internment camp). Along with the Armory Show and the regular satellite fairs (Pulse, Scope, Volta), this year we also attended Independent – a new fair founded by Elizabeth Dee of the non-profit X Initiative and Darren Flook of London’s Hotel gallery. Opening this Saturday at Bed Stuy’s vanguard Brooklynite Gallery is “Make It Fit,” a show featuring Brooklyn-based artist Specter and the German duo of Various & Gould. Preview: Alexandros Vasmoulakis – “Is Everybody Happy?” @ LeBasse Projects

Greek artist Alexandros Vasmoulakis will be coming to Los Angeles for his first US solo show at LeBasse Projects. The show “Is Everybody Happy?” is his latest body of work which contain both canvas and paper works featuring his signature characters. Known for works both inside and out, the talented artist is also expected to work on a large outdoor piece when he visits LA. The show opens this Saturday, March 20th at 7pm. Benefits: The Mending Broken Hearts Appeal

The British Heart Foundation will be holding a event next month hoping to raise £50 million to fund the cutting-edge cardiac-regenerative research. The benefit entitled The Mending Broken Hearts Appeal (curated by CCA gallery) will feature artwork from a group of artists including Damien Hirst, Sir Peter Blake, Jonathan Yeo, Gavin Turk, and Antony Micallef (interviewed) among many others. Opening alongside Aaron Nagel’s Marks at the Shooting Gallery was Kevin Cyr and Jessica Hess‘ “Temporal Surfaces” at the adjoining White Walls gallery. Cleverly curated by Lainya Maganya, “Temporal Surfaces” brings together two documentarists of the bleak urban and industrial landscape.
