Tom French is a young artist whose work we’ve been enjoying for a little while. A regular contributor to group shows in and around London and the UK, we saw Tom’s fantastic “Cowboy Balance” series of works available at Urban Angel recently and got in touch to go take a look at his work for ourselves at his studio up in Newcastle, UK.

Tom works predominantly in charcoal, but also uses acrylic, spraypaint, gold leafing and collaged paper to bring his dazzling urban realism compositions to life. He told us of a newly found confidence in the approach to his work, originating from a new level of comfort in letting his work “get messy” and flow in a more organic way. Tom’s approach to his charcoal pieces is now to use his fingers, chamois and an eraser just as much as the charcoal itself as his medium. The results are nothing short of stunning – Tom’s ability to portray motion and the dynamic is unsettlingly strong.

Take a look around this exciting artist’s studio after the jump.
